October-Second Month of College

Again, I was fiddling with my engagement ring, I was sitting in the campus café, waiting for Luke to go on his lunch break from the music store.

"Hey babe." Luke said sitting in the seat opposite.

"Hi." I breathed and bent my neck up to kiss him.

"I literally just got off the phone with Jo, she said Mel's doing just fine." Luke said

"I feel bad," I began, "Jo is in college too yet she's our babysitter and we don't pay her."

"Because she refused?"

"She's my best friend!" I laughed.

Soon, two plates of chicken pasta was set on the table. "Ooooh my favourite." Luke rubbed his hands together.

I suddenly blurted, "how do you feel about having a Christmas wedding?"

"I thought we were waiting a few years?" Luke choked on his food.

I sighed, "well yeah, a few Christmas's in the future?"

"A winter wedding. That sounds cool. Instead of the tux I'll be Santa. And you'll be Mrs Clause." Luke laughed, "it can be really kinky too."

"Luke!" I slapped him on the chest, "that would totally be creepy!"

"Think about it - "

"No Luke, I'm not marrying Santa." I chuckled.

"I could get those red suspenders and attach them into a pair of red shorts and get a Santa hat." He rambled, "you can go down the aisle in this kinky stripper Mrs Cause - or an elf! Oh my god Al you should dress up as a kinky elf!"

"Oh my god shut up." I clamped my hands around my ears. "We aren't getting married for a long time."

"What's that supposed to mean?" His tone suddenly changed.

"Well we're gonna wait a couple years like you said." I answered.

"Oh, right, right." Luke muttered.

"What's wrong?" I sighed. This time.

"Nothing." Luke said, "I gotta get back to work."

I licked my lips and bit them. "Whatever." I mumbled. I don't even see what the problem was now.

Finally it was five o'clock and I practically collapsed against the door, dropping all my books and files. "God." I yawned.

The lights flickered on. "Ally." Luke said sitting on the couch. "I made you a pie."

Luke seemed proud of himself, and handed me a slice, "what's this for?" I asked.

"I think I made you upset earlier," he shrugged.

"I wasn't upset, just a little annoyed," I answered slipping into the seat next to him.

"What time do we have to pick up Mel?" Luke added.

"Jo's gonna drop her off." I answered.

Luke flicked through the TV channels for something to watch and Jo came through the door, we thanked her and Mel was placed onto Luke's lap, "when does she turn four months?"

"October 3rd." I giggled.

"Oh my god!" Luke squealed when he saw that they were showing Mean Girls on the TV.

"You're such a white boy." I chuckled.

After some while of watching Mean Girls, Luke suddenly spoke up, "I think we could make this work."

"Huh?" I have a puzzled look

"I thought we were moving too fast." He shrugged.

"Are we?"

"I don't think so. We're handling the situation quite well." Luke stared into my eyes

"Me too." I chuckled, "I'm glad we stopped hating each other, or the Melanie situation would be pretty awkward."

"Who said I stopped hating you?" Luke joked, I hoped.

"Shut up," I rolled my eyes slapping him and pushing him on the chest.

Luke and I fell backwards onto the couch and let out a loud sigh. Melanie was in between us, soon enough, due to my tiredness, I drifted off to sleep.
