"Of course, this is only a possibility-" he started, but Per quickly cut him off.
"You're right!" she said, turning toward Cerro. "I mean... it could happen."
Cerro fell silent for a moment, weighing the idea before finally responding.
"It's possible," he admitted. "But even if they decide to use her, they won't simply forgive what she did. If she is found guilty of breaking our laws, they will still punish her afterward."
Per leaned back in her chair, her shoulders sinking as hope slowly left her expression.
"Unless..." Ark said quietly.
Both of them looked at him again.
"Unless she demands something in exchange."
Per understood Ark's reasoning, but she was still far from convinced that it was the right choice.
"If you're suggesting that she asks for the freedom to love a Hivrin in exchange for helping us defeat our enemies, I doubt the Council would agree," Cerro said with certainty. "They have other means. Other forces they can use."
Ark stared at the whiskey in his glass, a faint smirk appearing on his face. "And I doubt those means will be enough."
His expression slowly became more serious. "I have a feeling we're dealing with something far greater than we realize... something far more dangerous."
He paused, letting the silence settle before continuing. "If they decide to lock her away and we fail to stop our enemies without her..." He lowered his gaze. "It won't just be Clair who suffers the consequences. The entire Council could fall."
"Where is this heading?" Cerro asked, his voice edged with impatience.
Ark calmly set his glass down on the table. "If they refuse to grant Clair's request... then we show them what their decision could cost them."
He leaned back slightly. "It may sound like a threat, but it isn't. We're simply making them understand what could happen if they choose the wrong path." He paused for a moment. "Of course, this only works if we can prove that the enemy we're facing is beyond anything they have encountered before... and that Clair is the only one capable of stopping them."
"And how do we prove that?" Cerro asked, clearly unconvinced. "It's still not a solid plan."
Ark simply shrugged. "I know. It's not... But am I the only one who has noticed how the darkness has been growing lately? How these signs of evil keep appearing more often?"
He shook his head slightly. "I don't know what we're dealing with yet... but something feels wrong. Something much worse could be coming."
Cerro's eyes narrowed at his words. Ark's concerns seemed less like speculation and more like a warning.

After school, Zach made his way back to their dorm room. Their classes had ended early because of an urgent faculty meeting, and finishing his term paper had left him drained.
He sat on his bed and leaned against the wall, letting out a quiet sigh. It had been two weeks since he last saw Clair.
He took out his phone and sent her a message.
"Just got back to the dorm. Afternoon classes got canceled."
His phone beeped a few seconds later.
Clair: "What are you up to now?"
Zach typed his reply.
"I finally finished my papers. I'm thinking of lying down after a shower."
