In the school library, Calliso and Jacksen were still troubled by what their friend had gone through at the nightclub the previous night. Upon returning to their dorm, they found him already in bed, wrapped in a blanket. Calliso gently asked about his well-being, receiving a weak 'yes' in response. Since he appeared physically fine, they decided not to press him further.
At the end of the long table, they sat quietly with books in hand: Zach with a literature book, Calliso with a novel, and Jacksen with a comic book. Zach pulled a notebook from his bag and began jotting down notes. Jacksen, feeling uneasy about not knowing the full story of the nightclub incident, finally set his book aside. "Hey, Zach," he called out, unable to contain his curiosity any longer.
Zach and Calliso turned their attention towards him.
"Okay, spill it. What happened at the nightclub? Why'd you leave like that?" Jacksen queried.
Calliso glanced at Zach, silently urging him to respond.
With a sigh, Zach closed his notebook, resigning himself to the impending interrogation. "Honestly, I'm just as confused," he admitted. Pausing for a moment, he continued, "When Chloe hugged me, it felt off, and whatever she said only worsen that feeling."
"What exactly did you feel?" Calliso asked.
Zach glanced downward, recollecting the moment. "It's hard to explain... it was almost like... I was transported back in time. It happened so fast, I couldn't really make sense of it, but there was this tightness in my chest. I had to break away from Chloe and get out," he explained.
"Like déjà vu?" Jacksen suggested.
"Yeah, maybe. It's like a memory from the past, but without a visual, just a sensation," Zach responded.
"I remember my grandfather's neurologist saying that memories can be tied to our senses. He was in the Vietnam War, he used to get these crazy déjà vu episodes about it almost all the time. It would often happen when someone touched him or when there's a loud noise. He passed away a few years ago, still haunted by those memories," Jacksen shared.
Calliso added uncertainly, "So, what Zach experienced was like his brain failing to recall the memory, but his senses retained it?"
"Could be. I'm not entirely certain. I'm no neurologist," Jacksen replied.
"If Chloe's actions triggered it, maybe that memory is linked to your ex-girlfriend," Calliso speculated.
Zach scoffed. "No way," he paused, then admitted, a little embarrassed, "I've never had a girlfriend," he told them.
"Never?" Jacksen's tone conveyed surprise. "It never even crossed my mind to ask. Well, welcome to the virgin club. I always had a feeling the three of us were meant to be friends. This feels like a sign that we should start having more frequent night outs."
Calliso gave him a disgusted look.
"What? Don't you want to experience the love of a woman?" Jacksen's tone shifted to seriousness.
Calliso glanced back at Zach. "There he goes again, with his obsession over women."
"And there you are, acting like a gay again," Jacksen retorted.
Calliso shot him a glare, clearly annoyed.
"Hey, cut it out," Zach intervened.
