From Zach's expression, it was clear to Nally that he was there solely for Clair. She couldn't help but notice his frequent glances at his wristwatch and occasional scans of the surroundings. His actions stirred jealousy and anger within her. She had planned everything meticulously, intending to remove Clair from the picture. In that moment, she felt the depths of her desperation.
After fifteen agonizing minutes, Clair finally arrived. Nally discreetly watched as Clair walked through the crowd, searching for Zach. Intentionally, Nally led Zach to a spot where Clair could easily find him, and her hunch was correct as Clair quickly spotted him. Meanwhile, Zach remained oblivious to Clair's approach. As Clair made her way through the crowd towards him, Nally grabbed Zach's arm and held up her phone, a message already typed out. The noise around them swallowed any chance of conversation. Zach blinked in surprise, then quickly understood, this was her way of speaking.
I'm letting you go. Just one last thing, KISS ME. After that, I'll leave, and she can have you.
Zach read it, unease settling in. When he looked up, Nally was already watching him, a small, expectant smile on her lips.
He didn't know what to do. His thoughts pulled in opposite directions, one urging him to go along with it, the other warning him that it felt wrong, too sudden, too forced.
Before he could decide, Nally rose onto her toes and closed the distance between them.
Surprise held him still. He didn't pull away. Some part of him told him that after this, everything might finally settle, that he could be free to choose what came next with Clair.
Even so, the feeling lingered.
It wasn't right.
Their lips parted, and Nally gave him a small smile. "Thank you," she mouthed.
Zach stood there, still stunned, a trace of awkwardness settling in.
Nally lifted her phone again, as if everything had already been planned.
I told Clair to meet us by the billboard. She might be there now.
She pointed toward a billboard on the right, and Zach followed her gesture. Then she turned slightly, casting a quick look behind them.
When he looked back at her, confusion still lingered on his face. He didn't know whether to say something or just leave.
Before he could decide, Nally gave him a firm shove and urged him to go.
As he walked away, she glanced over her shoulder once more and saw Clair retreating into the crowd. She kept her eyes on her until she was gone. Her knees trembled, but there was no turning back now. Even so, a weight slowly formed within her.
When Zach reached the billboard, Clair wasn't there. He waited for several minutes, but she never showed. He pulled out his phone and called her again and again, no answer.
Impatience crept in, followed by frustration. Too many things that night didn't make sense, and it was starting to wear on him. Still, he stayed. He waited through the noise, through the crowd, until the concert finally ended, but Clair never came.
The thought of calling Nally crossed his mind, but their last encounter still felt off, leaving him uneasy.
With nothing else left to do, he sent Clair a short message saying he was heading home.
