Alex's leaving

The first ultrasound

Jo's pov:
We woke up the next morning and started packing for one more time. Maggie helped making breakfast and Zola was her assistant. I fed baby Alex and Amelia fed both Bailey and Ellis. When the breakfast was ready we sat and started eating.
Maggie: "So Jo. What are you gonna do with the loft? Will you sell it or something?"
Jo: "I don't think so. I want to keep it as a memory. I don't want to forget anything from here."
Meredith: "Jo. Look at the clock. It's 9:30"
Jo: "Oh. Yes. We really have to go. Mer, will you come with me?"
Meredith: "Of course."
Atticus: "Where are you going? Is it something serious?"
Jo: "No. No. It's nothing. I'll tell you when I'll come back."
Maggie: "Ok. We'll continue packing but you really have to tell us about it."
Zola: "Mom. Can I come too?"
Meredith: "I don't know. If aunt Jo agrees then you can come."
Jo: "Of course you can come Zola."
Amelia: "I guess Bailey, Ellis and baby Alex will sit here."
Meredith: "Yes please. But now Jo, we really have to go."
At the car:
Zola: "Mom. Where are we going?"
Meredith: "Actually, aunt Jo and uncle Alex are having a baby and Carina is going to check it."
Zola: "Really aunt Jo? Are you and uncle Alex having a baby?"
Jo: "Yes sweetheart. That's true. But the baby is growing inside my tummy right now. You will see it up close in approximately 9 months."
Zola: "I'm so excited. But. I miss uncle Alex."
Jo: "Me too Zola."
Meredith: "Here we are at the hospital!"
We arrived at the hospital and went to Carina's office who was waiting for us.
Carina: "Good morning guys! You're just on time! Now, let's have a look at the baby,shall we? Ok,Jo  so you have to take off your clothes from your waist down because you must be only a couple of weeks pregnant and it's better for the baby to be checked. I'll give you some privacy and this coverage in order to be covered."
Meredith: "And Zola and I will give you extra privacy too."
After five minutes:
Carina: "Ok. Jo you're gonna feel a little pressure ok?... Oh there is the baby. Since you're only 4 weeks pregnant, the baby's heart can't be heard yet. Anyway, Congratulations!"
Zola: "Mom. Where's the baby?"
Meredith: "Can you see that tiny mark on the screen? Well, this is your cousin."
Carina: "Ok. We'll go out again and I want to discuss some things when I'll get back."

Carina: "Jo. I know about your husband and what happened to him so it must be difficult for you to raise a baby. So if you don't want this k-"
Jo: "Of course I want it. I'm keeping it no matter what."
Carina: "Ok then. Here are some pictures of your baby and I will wait you again in 4 weeks to listen to the baby's heart. Congratulations again!"
We left and Meredith drove back home.
Jo: "Hey Zola. Can you go and play with your siblings and your cousin. The grownups have a conversation to make."
Zola: "Sure!"
Atticus: "So. What happened?"
Jo: "Listen. Before Alex died, we were trying to make a baby. Turns out our wishes came true. I'm pregnant. Meredith and I went to Carina's. That's why Meredith told me the time today. Now, discussion is over. Can we continue packing?"
Atticus: "Really Jo? And how are you going to raise two babies?"
Maggie: "We'll help her. A baby brings happiness. Now that you and Amelia are having a kid, we'll have three babies in here. This means lots and lots of happiness."
Atticus: "Well then... Congratulations princess. Let me hug you and hug that baby too."
Jo: "Ohh. I almost forgot. I have pictures of the baby to show you. Come here."
I showed the pictures and then continued emptying the loft. At night, we had finished. The loft was completely empty. I was wearing Alex's black jacket. The one who used to wear when I first started working at the hospital and he used to listen to a kind of music that I've never liked in order to get over me. It smelled Alex. Later, we went back to Mer's house and I fell asleep on the bed that Alex used to sleep when we had broken up, hugging baby Alex.
