"Yes, so pretty much Aymee got a slap on the wrist," Raven finishes up the last of her food and pushes her container along the stairs that we are sitting on.
"Well that's unfortunate, nothing is going to open her mind if she doesn't get some kind of ridicule." You can't help but nod in agreement with Cayen as he too finishes what is left of his food that didn't fall on the floor from his arms going numb and dropping his container. You tried to give him some of your food as you were not that hungry and he needed all of his strength but he simply shook his head at a weird angle from his nerves malfunctioning in his neck. You place down your container with unfinished food in between you and Cayen, just in case he changes his mind.
"Ya, but what can Ms. Devon do?" You lean back on the wall of the hallway, the flickering light blinding you momentarily until you firmly adjust yourself to have your head tilted away from the light, "Think about it." Both of them look at you expectantly, wanting to see where your point is going. Cayen is leaning forward on his legs, resting his elbows on his thighs. His oversized sweater and pants hiding is malnourished and twitchy form as he sits between you and Raven. "Aymee's mother is extremely influential and it would put her at risk of ridicule which could lead to her losing her job and causing many other issues for her."
"That's true, somehow I feel as though Aymee would make up some excuse to how Ms. Devon is endangering her life and somehow it would just not go in Ms. Devon's way." You close your eyes and relax against the side of the hallway feeling your head subconsciously nod with Cayen's point.
You hear the crinkling of paper. You open your eyes to see Cayen unfolding some paper that he must have had in his pocket. He turns to look at you with his puppy dog eyes which of course you can't refuse. You rummage through your jacket pockets and find four small pencils and a broken piece of led. He quickly grabs a pencil, hesitates and then also grabs a small part of the led and begins to use it to darken the paper with small swirled smudges.
"I feel as though Aymee would benefit from living in the Sky Box even for just a week," Raven turns around on the stair and leans back, resting her head delicately beside Cayen's leg.
"Hah.. I don't think that she can survive a week to be completely honest with you Raven."
"Fair," Raven lets out a long exasperated sigh and stretches her arms up, lightly tapping Cayen on the head. He barely reacts as he starts to space out into his drawing. You bite your lip and start to gnaw slowly.
"How are you feeling, Cayen?" He doesn't stop drawing what appears to be a cross between a person and a gorilla, but he taps your leg lightly before answering.
"Could be worse," he looks up for a second to lock eyes with you. You have your eyebrow up in question as his smirk grows, "I could be Aymee."
"Y/n, I thought you got over that habit of biting your lip." You stop immediately, not questioning how Raven could possibly hear that you were doing that. You look down at your hands and feel a small smile grow on your lips as you think of how attentive Raven is, how she shows she cares so much. You take a pencil and scoot over to get closer to Cayen to help start to shade in the colossal round feet of the beast that Cayen has created.
After a few minutes of peaceful silence, footsteps are heard echoing along the mainly abandoned corridor. You don't look up but by the sound and pace of the steps, you already know who it is.
"Hey babe, I need help getting the shipment in for tomorrow's training." You hear Raven sigh and get up. The clatter of her picking up her container is heard next and then you feel her footsteps in the ground come closer to you. She leans down and pulls both you and Cayen into a hug, kissing you lightly on the forehead reminding you a lot of how your mother treats you. She gets up and their footsteps are heard loudly walking away from their favorite spot to hang out.
"So, I guess that means that Raven will be training tomorrow with Finn?" Cayen paused his drawing as his arm begins to spasm and he drops the pencil he has been holding. He allows his arm a moment to rest before leaning over and grabbing the pencil and continuing on the odd facial features of this creature.
"Seems likely," you move your attention to the odd long tail that has formed behind the drawn creature, giving it a little tuft of fur at the end that reminds you of a cheetah from your science books, "what about you?"
"I am going with my dad to the medical area on Go-Sci to see if I can move up on the list," he exhales deeply, knowing that the time spent will be long and a waste.
"So I guess that means I won't see you for a couple of days," you laugh calmly to yourself trying to pick up his mood. He lightly nudges you laughing along before his laughs turn into bouts of coughs.
"Well, I promised my parents I'd spend the mid-day with them in the agro station," you allow your pencil to stop moving and take a moment to appreciate the new addition to the collection of memories. The look of half man half ape is no longer easily seen as Cayen adds bushy hair surrounding the face and odd fangs creating dents in the creature's lips.
"Learning?" You can hear the unspoken question in his voice and you hum a response so he knows the answer.
"Yes, tomorrow we are going over the use of a few flowers and then I will help them transport them to the medical area."
"So we may see each other?"
"It would be a nice break in the day."
"Agreed." His voice gets a little husky before a bout of coughing takes over his body. The pencil he was holding collides with the wall from the sudden movement and spasming. When the coughs finally subside he looks at you with a side smirk, "I love my superpower sometimes."
