Chapter 7: Tobias POV
"Yes it is, we're engaged!" Zeke says. I never thought he'd ever get married. He used to tell me he'd be a free man forever.
"Oh my gosh that's great," Tris says.
"Congrats buddy! My little Ezekiel is growing up." We all laugh.
All of a sudden the laughing stops and all that can be heard is a high-pitched shriek. I look over to find Tris collapsed on the floor. What happened?! Before I can even think, I scoop her up and start running. I quickly check her pulse to find that she has lost consciousness and is barely breathing. This cannot be good.
Once I get to the hospital, nurses rush towards me and take her from me. They won't let me follow. Will I lose my love tonight?
After what seems like days later, a nurse comes to get me.
"Is Tris alright?" I croak.
"Mr. Eaton," she starts. Uh oh, this must be bad. "Follow me." I follow her down a long winding hallway to a small room. "Please take a seat. Someone will be with you shortly." I do as told and sure enough, someone comes about 10 minutes later.
"Matthew?"
"Tobias."
"Is Tris okay?" He tries to ignore that. "IS TRIS OKAY?"
"We ran a couple of tests on her and have her an MRI. We thought she totally beat out the death serum, but there is a trace of it left in her and it is causing damage to her spine and nervous system. She needs to be put into surgery immediately or else the results could be fatal." Matthew says.
"Oh my gosh. Oh. My. Gosh." I start to cry. He has this look that tells me he's hiding something else. "You're hiding something."
He takes a deep breath,"She's in a coma which makes the surgery more difficult and increases the risk of death. There is an eighty percent chance of paralyzation or other complications induced by the death serum if the surgery is not performed, but there is a forty percent chance of death if its not. Great odds, but there is no certainty. We have left the choice up to you. You have no more than 10 minutes to decide."
