Ted laid on his back and stared at his roof. His mind was running through too many things to focus so he just shut it all out at once. He only wanted to think about what had happened on the roof. He had kissed Olivia. He, Theodore Yelawolf, kissed Olivia. His face just heated up thinking about it. Does this mean they're dating now? It was the second month of freshman year. Maybe they should wait a bit? Maybe this is good and they can grow together?
"Stupid teenage stuff." He groaned as he turned to his side pulling the blanket over him. He had gotten Ketter to agree to let him stay home for the day. He was just in too much pain and he wanted a day to just sleep. Dr. Feel-good came by earlier and gave him some more of that medicine. Good stuff. Made him feel relaxed and helped with pain. Also made him heal faster. He should be good by Friday if he didn't get into any more fights.
He closed his eyes and slowly allowed sleep to take over. Suddenly he was 7 again. The age he was when he first started taking Judo. It was something Ketter had suggested. "I'm not always going to be there to protect you bud. You'll have to defend yourself." He had said. Ted took the classes seriously and apparently he was a natural. He had surpassed the first three classes and even placed first in the youth tournament. It wasn't a real challenge though. It didn't come until that day. It was the second tournament he had entered and had made it to the finals. It was all on the line.
His opponent, a boy two years older, had been strong but Ted was fast. He had managed to get a few good hits in but the boy ended up breaking his arm. Ted was in pain but, something changed. Something in his eyes formed. A flame of beautiful glow and color. The flame of battle. Ted ended up beating the boy by a landslide of pure adrenaline. Ketter saw the flame and saw what came with it so he pulled him out of the class. Ted had objected but Ketter refused. Ted spent his next few days in the hospital. He recalls one day clearly.
He was in bed reading his book when he heard something bouncing down the hall. He turned to see a bright yellow ball. He watched as a blonde haired boy walked towards it and picked it up. He had the biggest smile Ted had ever seen. His curls bounced with every movement. The boy stopped and looked into the room and found Ted who simply watched as the boy entered the room with his ball. "Salutations!" The boy greeted. Ted just waved back. The boy looked at his book and smiled. "Do you like King Arthur?" The boy asked. Ted nodded.
He had loved the tales of heroes and knights. It was what his parents read to him. Before the accident two years ago that is. The boy nodded. "Of course you do. He always goes on grand adventures! I want to go on one to!" The boy exclaimed. He stroke a pose like a hero from TV. "I want to be strong and save people." Ted laughed a bit as the boy bounced around. He finally stopped and approached Ted. he held a hand out with a grin. "My name is Peter. My mom calls me Pip though." The boy greeted. Ted smiled as he shook his hand. "Theodore. Most people call me Ted."
About three years later Ketter saw a change in Ted. He was no longer happy or really reading anymore. He was always staring off into space with the same bored expression. Ted had come to realize just how cruel the world could be. It wasn't a fairy tale, it was a tragedy. Ketter decided to volunteer him to help people in need. More accuracy, kids his age. He sent him to Rhodes Children's Hospital where he was to play with kids who weren't as fortunate as him. Ted didn't mind. These kids looked like they could use a friend. He ended up being assigned to one person in particular. A girl in room 243. Her name was Stephanie. When he showed up, a bit late due to traffic, he saw the small girl for the first time. He also met her sister who hated the boy fearing that he would tease her. It took a few tries but Ted finally got through to her and became friends with the girl. Even after she was released, Ted still played with her.
Two years later, now 12 himself, Ted attended school and even got back into Judo. He once again rose through the rankings and proved himself time and time again. It was during one tournament that he met his rival for the next year. James. He fought with him every single tournament and every time they would end in a draw. Pip, Lilith, and Steph always came to watch him and even when James seemed to have the upper-hand, Ted would even the odds. It was always like this until one day.
Ted was leaving the match and had planned on going to eat with his friends when he found Steph being picked on by some older kids. Ted stood there with anger. Suddenly, there was a spark in his eye. A flame burned bright as he fought the boys. Ted was soon outnumbered and hopeless. That was until James showed up and helped. The two boys ended up taking down the entire team themselves. James reintroduced himself. Jim was what he called himself. James was his father's name and he was better than that scumbag. Ted shook his hand and began a new friendship with his former rival.
The next year was a blur. He was 13. He had gotten into a fight. Something had happened. It was a memory lost in his mind only coming up when he was confronted all these years later. He fought, who? Why? What happened? "I'll be by your side always." Who did he tell that to?
It was 5th grade that he met him. William Angel. He was the son of some rich guy across town who decided it was best for his son to get to know the lower income people. William annoyed him to no end. Finally, Ted caved in and became his friend seeing as all of his were either in a grade above him or in a different school. When 7th grade rolled around Ted ended up quitting Judo to save up for West Wood Academy. It was where all of his friends were going after all. Ketter was hesitant but since his other two children went there, why not Ted? Ketter did the paper work and got ready by the time 8th grade rolled around.
By freshman year, Ted was ready. At least, he thought he was. Boy did things take a left turn on the first day of school.
"Are you sure it's ok for us to just walk in?"
"I do not see why it would be bad. I do it all the time."
Ted slowly opened his eyes and looked to his door where the voices were coming from. "I've never been to his house before." "I've never been to this area before." Wait, That was Pip, Eve, and Steph. Why were they here....
"POMPADOUR!"
Pip kicked in the door making Ted sit straight up with a scream. He looked over to his best friend who was smiling like an idiot. "WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS?!" Pip just laughed and entered the room uninvited. "I bring friends!" Steph, Eve, Jim, Lilith, and Olivia walked in. "Pardon the intrusion." Eve apologized. They all gathered around as Ted sat there. "Hey guys. What's going on?" Ted asked. Olivia looked around the room in wonder while Steph was browsing his manga collection. "We were just checking in on ya. seeing how you were doing." Jim explained.
Ted smiled and invited them to make themselves at home. These were his friends after all. Though it would be nice to have a door.
