Chapter 5
"Blake!" I couldn't believe it! I could feel him cringe when I threw my arms around him. "Uh, who are you?" I retreated from the hug and looked at him, holding his shoulders so he'd have to look at me. "Blake? Really concentrate." I urged. He stared into my eyes. I stared back, hoping he was recognizing me. "Sorry, I've never seen you before. Do you even go to this school?" I rolled my eyes. "You're getting closer. You know that I don't- well didn't go to this school." I told him. He raised one eyebrow. "Huh? Lady I think you got me confused with someone else." I shook him. "Blake! Focus! It's me! Amber! We were partners in crime when we were like 7! Remember? The last time we saw each other was like...three years ago!" He stared at me with a blank expression on his face. Then his eyes got big. "Amber!" He screamed then threw his arms around me, one hand still had his ice cream bar in it. "Oh my gosh I cant believe you're here! Wait...what are you doing here?" He asked, suddenly realizing what was going on. "Next please." The lunch lady called. I stepped forward and so did Blake. "Umm, one bag of Doritos please." The lunch lady still stared at me. "That it?" She asked a bit shocked. "Uh, yeah. Is there a problem?" I replied. The lunch lady stared, then shook her head to clear her thoughts. "Okay, here you go. That's a dollar and fifty cents." I handed her the money. Then me and Blake started walking toward where he had been sitting; or atleast, I assumed so.
"Amber, what are you doing up here?" Blake asked again. He knows how much the Bahamas meant to me so it must be strange seeing me up here. "Umm..." I started to say, then Blake cut me off. "Oh crap! If I walk up to my table with you all my friends will make fun of me! You need to go!" He said. I looked around a little confused. I need to go? His friends will make fun of him? What? Blake was always good at ending conversations quickly if he needed to. "Uh...you have a phone right?" He panicked. I nodded, then he looked around and ran to the fruit stand and grabbed a napkin. "Do you have a pen? Or pencil?" I checked my pockets and, oddly enough, I had a pen. I pulled it out and gave it to him. He jotted down his number on the napkin and gave it to me. "Okay, text me." Is all he said then he was gone before I could say bye.
When I went and sat back by Angie, I realized that I just ditched AJ at the snack bar. Now I felt bad. "So, have fun at the snack bar?" Angie quickly shot at me before I could even sit down. I could tell she was still mad about me not opening up to her. "Uh...yeah I guess. I saw someone I haven't seen in a while." I shot back. She looked at me interested. At least this will get her off the Bahamas topic. "Really? Who is that? I know everyone in this school is it a guy?" She asked. I nodded. Then she started listing name after name of all these guys I did not know. Bubba's name came up once and so did Ivy's boyfriend, Sash. "Oh my gosh I give up! Who is it? Just tell me already!" Angie complained. I laughed. "Okay, He's a grade younger than us. His name is Blake. Blake Daily."
Angie thought about this for a second then rolled her eyes. "Oh yes. I know Blake." She scowled. I looked around because it looked like she was scowling at someone around me. I looked back at Angie and she was just staring intently at nothing. Then she shook out of it. "Are you okay?" I asked. Oh my gosh, what did Blake do to her? "Umm...yeah I guess. Well it's just...Blake...ugh!" She covered her face with her hands. I stared at her. "Blake...what? Did something bad to you?" I asked, curious now. She groaned in irritation. "He's such a little...a little...a little pest! He's like an annoying little brother that I never wanted!" I silently laughed inside. Blake can be a pest, like a little annoying brother. "Yeah, Blake can be very...annoying at times." I didn't know what to say. I guess I just got used to it because we hung out so much but, like I said, Blake usually only has his little group of friends and he doesn't really let other people in easily.
"No offense to you Amber, but I don't really like Blake that much. And he had the biggest crush on me a few years back and he was the most annoying little kid that I've ever met! Do you know what I found out from that experience? Is that boys really do insult you if they like you." She rolled her eyes and grunted. "How do you know he liked you though?" I asked, a little more curious than I already was. "Two reasons. One, because everyone told me. And two, because one of those people who told me was him. I don't know if he ever got over me? Hmm..." She started thinking. I just let her think. No offense to Angie but I really didn't care if he still liked her. She got me interested, then uninterested in a matter of seconds. Then the bell rang and it was time to head to our next class.
