A little voice in my head told me not to worry. To simply say farewell to this worthless life and accept my demise with open arms.
What have you got to lose, Misaki?
The answer was nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Besides, my death would probably lift an enormous weight off my step mom's shoulders.
I tore my eyes away from the lifeless body near my feet and turned around to face the person that was on my tail.
However, not one, but two people were closing in on me.
But they weren't the men from the restaurant.
"Hey cutie, are you lost?" mocked the taller one, crouching down to take a closer look at me.
I recognized him instantly; he was the menacing looking guy who was always lurking in the alleyway near the entrance to my workplace, with a lighter in his right hand and a cigarette in his left. His shameless glares would give me a feeling of insecurity every time i passed by him.
Disgusting perverts like him were the reason i always brought a change of clothes with me. As for right now, i was still in my uniform because the events from today had made it slip my mind.
"How about you work for me?" his companion said wickedly, shamelessly eyeing me from head to toe. "Be my personal maid and i'll reward you."
He grabbed me by my arm and pulled me up towards him.
"After all, your boss is dead. What a pity."
"It's a pity that you're next," the silhouette of a third figure formed in midair and dropped to the ground in a swift motion, right behind the stranger who held me roughly.
What happened next was even more terrifying. In a split second, the stranger was howling in pain and my arm was freed from his grip as an outburst of profanity left his mouth and he fell to his knees shakily. I felt the ground become slippery and i snapped my head down to see a pool of blood forming on the concrete floor.
Edging away from the scene, I wasted no time to see how it ended. I had no intention on being those pathetic movie characters who, when in peril, would rather watch the scene unfold rather than flee when they're being protected or given a chance to escape.
Thus, I ran as fast as my legs would carry me, covering my ears along the way as a blood curdling scream echoed through the cold night.
Killing is wrong but they got what they deserved...
I'd been running for at least five minutes. The street was derelict and quiet, apart from the faint sound of police sirens growing in the distance. Surely the cops would arrive soon and deal with the situation that i left behind.
When i was sure i wasn't being followed, i slowed my pace and scanned the area for any sign of a bus stop or perhaps even a payphone.
No luck.
Panting, i sighed deeply and turned a corner, when all of a sudden i was shoved backwards against a bumpy, uneven surface. My back was pressed against the trunk of a tree. A veiny hand wrapped around my neck and i was met face to face with a pair of wide, cat-like eyes.
"You can run, but you can't hide baby."
It was him. The weirdo who saved me from the other weirdo named 'taehyung' back at the restaurant. And beat up those two creeps from the alley.
So weirdo number 2 might be my knight in shining armor, but he sure as hell wasn't a friendly one.
Where did he even come from? No footsteps... no shadow... i had been absolutely certain i was alone.
