MISAKI'S POV

"If i'd known you'd drag me along with you, I wouldn't have asked for anything." I mumbled, looking anywhere but up at him.

We were walking side by side, with me trying my hardest to hide the fact that i was struggling to match his footsteps, which were twice as large as mine.

"Well you should know by now that i like to have things my way," he replied, tucking a strand of hair behind his ear with his free hand.

I was reminded that my wrist was still trapped within his grasp.

His grip was firm, but also gentle. His touch, just like any other vampire, was as cold as ice. Strangely, i did not find it unsettling.

Rather, I felt... safe. Perhaps even cared for.

Impossible. How could the same person who has threatened to hurt me several times in the past make me feel such a way?

Maybe because I grew up thinking that interactions such as this only existed in fiction.

You see, reality was as exciting as watching paint dry, and reading was my only escape. Perhaps even now, I was sitting in a library with my nose buried in another fairy tale, so lost in those pages that my mind must have unconsciously ended up in a medieval city in Romania, my body cloaked in black and surrounded by supernatural beings.

If that was the case, then I should be afraid because I have no control over what is to happen in the story. What did the author have in store for me in the coming chapters? Was my character destined to die? What if my death was on the hands of the man walking right beside me, whose trap I must have foolishly fallen into?

I reminded myself that he was dangerous.

Unpredictable.

And also very frightening...

Deep down, I didn't want him to let go, and that made me feel like the biggest idiot on the planet.

I forcefully pulled my arm away.

"And you should know that one day someone is gonna come along and change that," i scolded him. I should make it clear that i wasn't going to let him manipulate me however he wished.

"Are you hungry?" He suddenly asked.

The randomness of his question took me by surprise and i paused, causing him to slow down at last and twist his body to face me.

"Huh?"

"I asked if you're hungry," he repeated calmly.

"No," i lied with a straight face, but my stomach was already growling at the thought of food.

"Oh?" He said, raising his eyebrows, "But your body tells me otherwise."

I let out a sigh.

Of course.

I wondered what other sorts of things he had the ability to hear, hoping that my thoughts had not been one of them.

"I know what you're thinking."

Holy shit, i'm screwed.

Amusement gleamed in his eyes as he watched me fumble for words.

"W-what?" I stuttered, my heart threatening to jump out of my rib cage any second. My hand unconsciously found the other one, playing with the ring that encircled its forefinger, twisting it from left to right.
