*Cal POV*
“Don’t do anything stupid” Michael said through the phone
“How can I, you took all the stupid with you” I respond taking a step and knocking on Londyn’s door.
“That was high school, and obviously it turned out alright” Mike rebutted
“Well, let’s hope you’re right”
My time spent since the last group outing amounted to me trying to fan the flame that was ignited between Addy and Ashton. I know it’s none of my business but seeing how happy Ashton was, I couldn’t help but try to keep him as occupied as possible. With the two of them being occupied working on Addy’s car today, that left me with some time to work on a little plan of my own.
“Hey Cal!” Quinn answers “What brings you by?” she smiled.
“Uhh, I was just around and thought I’d drop in” I chuckled nervously, I can’t believe I went with the “I was in the neighbourhood” excuse, what am I twelve.
“Well uhh, come in. I just put on some coffee” she steps back to let me in. For this being the first time into her home, I’m not as nervous as I thought I would be, not that I really should be that nervous, right? I’m not making any sense right now, maybe I’m more nervous than I think.
“I-I hope I didn’t ruin your plans or anything…”
“Me? Plans? No, it’s my day off, I was most likely just going to catch up on some things around the house while Addy is with Ash”
“OH” I smile. This could work after all.
“How do you like your coffee?” she asked
“uhh, it doesn’t matter really” I say taking a seat on the couch. Being joined shortly after by Ella as she landed in my lap
“Ok” she shrugged “So, I take it you have the day off as well?” she says joining me on the couch.
“OH, yeah I do have the day off” I smiled, relieved that she wasn’t catching on.
“I bet it gets pretty rough over there”
“Oh, yeah, I guess, with all the sick animals that you have to deal with.”
“I know that must be tough, I can’t even imagine if something happened to Ella”
“I feel the same about Duke, that’s why I wanted to go into the field, so I can be able to help them. I know it’s kind of cheesy but I like the feeling knowing that I’m doing something to help people, even if it is something so small as getting rid of their pups cold” I chuckled at that last part knowing the size of my “contribution” to society in comparison to the actual needs of the world.
“It’s not cheesy at all, it’s admirable. Too many people talk about doing good but never follow through. You should be happy, even if it is just ‘puppy dog colds’ ” she teased.
“I suppose you’re right” I smiled, giving Ella some rubs “So…what particularly drew you to your profession?”
“That’s actually a good question” she said, sipping on her coffee “I guess, like you, I like helping people. It’s kind of a blessing and a curse I suppose…”
“In what way?”
“Well, if I’m being honest, I tend to be a people pleaser, which doesn’t exactly turn out so well all the time…”
“Yeah, I get it” it was that moment that Ella decided to make a meal of my face. “I suppose Ella gets it too” I laugh.
“She seems to like you Cal”
“A little too much” I laugh. “I probably just smell like Duke” she leaned over into the crook of my neck and sniffed, sending my heart rate dangerously high. Oh please don't let me smell like dog b.o.
“Yeah, you do” she teased.
“Shut up” I laughed
“She must have missed you”
“Yeah, I have that effect on women” I teased. Hopefully that didn't come off too cocky.
“Oh, I’m sure” she responded with heavy sarcasm. "You've probably got to pry the pups off with a stick" girls got jokes.
“Ok, come get your pup before she licks my skin clean off” I laughed.
“Alright alright, come here ya little rascal” she grabbed the fur child “We’ve got to get the pups back together again”
“Yeah” I smiled. “About that…” I swallowed thickly “Maybe we do it, without the pups this time yeah?”
“Calum Hood are you asking me on a date?” she looked at me smiling calming my nerves.
“Well, yeah, I guess”
“I’d love to” she said petting Ella “Is that the reason you came over here?”
“Well, yeah, kind of” I sighed “And I didn’t want to be around in case Addy and Ashton blew up the house trying to fix her car” I tease.
“Oh yeah, i think she said they were supposed to change the oil or something like that."
“You don’t suppose they’ll be done by now do you?”
“Yeah, I guess. Oil changes shouldn’t take that long” she shrugged.
“Alright then, hate to lurk and run but...” I clapped my hands together “I best be saving my pup now” I stood
"Maybe you should've thought of that before you tried to make your 'escape'" She laughed
“Fair enough" I laughed "I’ll see you this weekend say around seven?”
“It’ s a date” she laughed “Now go save your son”
~~*~~“Honey, I’m home” I sang walking through the door. “Ash?” I asked walking further into the house.
Once I made it into the common area, I found my best friend, well his hair, sticking gingerly across the arm of the couch. He must have fallen asleep. As I got closer to the couch, I noticed he wasn’t alone, he was with a lady friend, our lady friend to be exact. Tangled tightly within his arms was Adelaide, aka Addy. Clad in tank tops the two laid like puzzle pieces, perfectly intertwined, Ashton with his arms around her like a seatbelt.
“I can’t wait to hear about this one” I took a picture of the scenario for proof that Ashton Irwin still had a heart. This is going to be good.
