Mina's POV
I hear the engine to Chaeyoung's motorcycle roar to life then fade away after a few seconds, indicating that they left.
I let out a deep sigh and walk into the living room.
I sit on the couch next to Sana, who's watching some romance movie.
I look at the screen, watching as the woman leaves the man she loves because she's afraid.
Afraid..
"What's on your mind?" Sana asks with her eyes still on the screen.
How does she do that?
I watch as the man on the screen breaks down after founding out the woman he loves left him.
"Is it about Chaeng again?" She questions after I don't reply.
"Yeah." I answer her.
"Why are you so scared of what you're feeling for her?" She pauses the movie and turns to face me.
"You know, my parents used to be so in love with each other, like sickeningly in love. And now they absolutely hate each other. I hear my mom crying every night after they fight, I see how much pain she's in.. I don't ever want to put anyone through that.." I stare at the paused image on the TV of the man crying.
"You're afraid." It's more of a statement rather than a question.
"Yeah." I tell her honestly.
"Mina, you're not your dad. And Chaeyoung isn't your mom, I can say with all the certainty in the world that you would never treat her like that." She grabs my chin, forcing me to look at her.
"Don't let your fear ruin your happiness." She says sternly.
"I don't even know if she has feelings for me in that way, she could just see me as a really good friend." I move her hand away and shake my head.
"Oh come on, with the way she's been acting this week, I don't think she could get anymore obvious." I whip my head back in her direction.
"Are you saying she has feelings for me?" I ask with wide eyes.
"I'm not saying that, only Chaeyoung could answer that. I'm just saying you know what's going on, don't run away from it because you're scared. Because I see how happy she makes you, it's a beautiful thing, a rare thing, so don't let it slip." I shake my head again at her words.
"What am I supposed to do? Just ask her if she likes me? No way. With everything she's been through, I'm not messing up our friendship, just when we're starting to get closer, by confessing my feelings for her. If she doesn't feel the same way, that could ruin our friendship, with what she's said to me this week, I don't think that's something either of us want. If we become anything more than friends, it has to be her that makes the first move. I can't be the one to possibly ruin what we already have, I'm not hurting her." I say in frustration.
"So you would want her to confess to you? That is, if she has feelings for you." She asks.
"Yeah. I think that'd be the only way we'd ever become anything more." I whisper.
I can't ruin our friendship.
I don't want to hurt her.
"Then feel it out." She leans back, turning her head to look at me again.
"What do you mean?" I ask, turning to face her as well.
"Chaeng can be a little oblivious at times, so make it more obvious that you have feelings for her. She could be in the same boat as you if she does, not wanting to say anything because she's afraid." She says.
"How do I make it obvious?" I ask, confused.
She smirks and gives me a mischievous look.
"That's easy. You flirt. Hard core flirt."
Chaeyoung's POV
"So how'd it go?" I ask Yoohyeon as she comes out of the cafe managers office.
"Well, starting tomorrow I'll be an official barista in training." She smiles wide as she sits down at the table across from me.
"That's great, Yoo! I'm so proud of you." I smile at her.
"I couldn't have done it without you Chaeng. I think meeting you was one of the best things that have ever happened to me. I mean, we haven't even known each other a week and you know more about me than anyone else. You're the best friend I've always wanted, so thank you." Her eyes tear up a bit and she chuckles at herself while wiping her eyes.
"You don't have to thank me, I'm happy that I could help you out a little. And besides, I got a pretty cool new best friend out of it." I raise my fist across the table and she bumps it with hers, I make an exploding sound, making us break out into a laughing fit.
"So what are you gonna do about Mina unnie?" She asks after our laughter dies down.
"I'm not sure. I think she only sees me as a friend." I sigh.
"There is a way we could test to see if she likes you as more than a friend or not.." She trails off, looking up at the ceiling weirdly.
"And that is?" I raise an eyebrow at her weird behavior.
She looks back at me with a smirk.
"Try to make her jealous."
I almost spit out the coffee I was drinking.
"Do what?!" I ask a little too loud, bowing my head in apology at the people who turned to look.
"Hear me out. If you are only a friend to her, then she wouldn't really react seeing you get close with someone else. But if she does like you as more than a friend, then she would most likely get jealous. I know I would if I saw Siyeon with someone." She says matter a factly.
"Okay.. so how exactly would we go about this?" I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea.
"We just act more touchy with eachother in front of her, not too much, but enough to get a reaction." She answers.
"What if she doesn't react?" I ask, starting to get nervous.
"It'll suck, but at least you'll know she probably only sees you as a friend." She gives me a sympathetic smile.
"You're right, that would suck." I pout, not liking the idea of that possible outcome.
"I honestly don't think that'll happen, but if does, I'm here for you." She says and pats my hand that's on top of the table.
"You really think this could work?" I ask.
She nods her head confidently making me laugh.
"Alright, let's do it." I say with as much confidence as I can, but I came across more scared than confident because Yoohyeon just laughs at me.
"Don't worry, we'll get you your girl." She taps the table excitedly.
I really hope this doesn't end in a mess..
