Persephone was finally looking and feeling better, and all it took were several dollars' worth of medication, tending to her nearly 24/7, and a month and a half.
Meredith couldn't help it. Persephone had grown on her.
"You're so less ugly," Meredith said, petting Persephone's head.
"Don't listen to her, Persephone. Those are unrealistic standards of bunny beauty, Meri," Seth scolded sarcastically, looking at something on his phone.
Meredith smiled to herself. Seth heard Corey calling her Meri a couple times and took up the nickname, too. She couldn't say she didn't like it when he called her that.
"I gotta grab something at the library," Seth put his phone back in his pocket, and grabbed his keys "I'll be right back."
"Okay," Meredith said as he left the room, noticing he didn't ask her to leave, or expect her to. Was it the same as wanting her to stay?
Meredith put Persephone back in her cage and sat down on Seth's bed. She had been in his room enough times to feel comfortable there. Seth's indifference to people coming over helped, although she once accidentally walked at the exact moment he came back from the shower. He was still wet, wrapped in a towel, and she knew she must have looked like she ate a pound of pepper. She checked her phone, seeing three texts from Benji.
Applications for the program are due tomorrow. Still don't know what to do.
Can we hang out tomorrow?
My parents won't stop calling
Meredith sighed and plopped down on Seth's bed, staring at the ceiling. She kept avoiding him whenever the transferring school subject came up, which was more frequent lately. Of course, she wouldn't forget Benji if he left. And her feelings wouldn't go away, either. But maybe it would be easier. Benji could be so dense and judgmental sometimes. She often tried to focus on all his bad qualities, as if it would exorcise her love for him. She tried thinking of Seth, and but it wasn't like she could replace one for the other. They were such different people, people who she loved being around for different reasons.
Still, thinking of Seth didn't stop her from thinking about Benji and how, despite all his bad qualities, it was still there. Him, and the image she had in her head, of them holding hands, his head on the crook of her neck, laying in bed and holding each other.
Yet she also started picturing her and Seth, almost without realizing at first. She imagined them skating together, and his head on her lap while she did homework, and hugging his middle while his long arms wrapped around her.
A hand shook her, and Meredith's eye flew open. She looked up at Seth's quizzical gaze above her.
"Did you fall asleep?"
"Oh," she wrinkled her brow. "I guess so. My bad."
"It's okay. Scooch over. Check this out." He sat on the edge of the bed, a pile of papers in his hands. Meredith slid to the side to give Seth space in his own bed. She folded her knees to her chest and leaned in to see the papers in his hands. It read:
Adorable Badass Bunny Up for Adoption!
(Definitely not kept at one of the student dorms)
Call the number if you're interested!
In the center, there was a picture of Persephone from her good angle (the side that had an eye, that is). Meredith suspected there might have been some filters involved because her fur looked snow-white instead of light gray. She did, in fact, look adorable in the picture.
