"If they want war, we'll give it to them."
Those words had haunted Jayfeather for the past few days. Why would Stoneteller suddenly be so aggressive? Well, Wind had tried to kill them, so that was a pretty good reason.
What? No! I don't want war! Jayfeather told himself.
"Awwww! Jay's Wing looks so cute when he's deep in thought!" Lion Blaze's voice shook Jayfeather out of his thoughts. He became aware of what was truly happening. Kits were being trained to fight against fully grown cats. The Tribe was about to go to war, and cats would die.
This can't be right? Wind is the first leader of WindClan- no Clan cat could have such an evil heart!
"Stoneteller plans on stepping down. She thinks that if we are going to war, we need a leader that knows how to fight."
"What?" Jayfeather sprinted for Stoneteller's den, almost tripping because of how fast he was going.
"Stoneteller, please don't!" Jayfeather said, panting.
"What? Who told you?" Stoneteller demanded.
"Lion Blaze," Jayfeather replied.
"Lion Blaze- that stupid kit. Does not know how to keep his mouth shut. No rabbit for him tonight- he's only going to get squirrel."
"Squirrels aren't bad," Jayfeather pointed out.
"That isn't the point!" Stoneteller said as she rolled her eyes. "You can't stop me from stepping down!"
"What if I said I'd leave?" Jayfeather asked. He regretted the words as soon as they left his mouth.
"You.... so, what you're trying to say is that you would leave me anytime just to get what you want. So you're using me," Stoneteller said coldly.
"I didn't mean- I-I..." Jayfeather's voice trailed off as Stoneteller turned her back on him, no hint of emotion in her voice as she spoke.
"Have a good day, Jay's Wing. Please leave my den now" Jayfeather knew that there was no point in arguing. Stoneteller wasn't going to budge- especially after what he had just said. Dejected, he left her den, sighing.
What have I done?
The next day, Jayfeather woke up to a nightmare. A new leader- Gray Wing. Stoneteller thought that he would use his fury towards Wind and Gorse to raise the Tribe to victory.
"Wake up, Jay's Wing," Gray Wing nudged Jayfeather. "You need to train now."
"What? I never had to train before!" Jayfeather said.
"That was when Half Moon was in charge." Gray Wing said impatiently. "Now, get up."
"Can't I just be a healer? I have several seasons of experience." Jayfeather pointed out.
"How? Half Moon doesn't remember you learning anything about healing." Gray Wing's eyes held feelings of suspicion.
"I, uh... had to learn how to use healing herbs in the tunnels, so I learned a lot then." Jayfeather said quickly. Gray Wing seemed to believe it.
"Fine, but I still want you to learn a few defensive moves, in case the rogues manage to get into our camp."
"Highly doubtable." Jayfeather pointed out. He stood up, yawning. "So, where will the Healer's den be?"
