Half Moon is expecting kits?

Numb with shock, Jayfeather finally spoke. "Let me feel." he mewed. Stoneteller rolled over. He felt her stomach, and instantly felt the definite round shape of a queen's stomach. He let out a gasp.

"You are expecting kits." Clear Sky ran towards Jayfeather and Stoneteller. "Stoneteller! We've caught an eagle-" He stopped when he saw Stoneteller's round stomach. "You're expecting kits! By what I see, you'll be ready to deliver them pretty soon!" He gasped.

Stoneteller purred, obviously pleased. Jayfeather helped Stoneteller up. "Come on! We have to get as much distance covered as we can before you are unable to travel."

It had been half of a moon. Stoneteller was now unable to travel, slowing the Tribe down. "Stoneteller." Dewy Leaf dropped a hare down at Stoneteller's paws. "Eat this. Jay's Wing says you're close to kitting." Stoneteller nodded weakly. Jayfeather padded into the cave. "Stoneteller, I think a snowstorm is coming. It's getting hard to see, and the winds are getting stronger."

"The snowstorm will bury us in here!" Shaded Moss' urgent mew piped up.

"We should leave." Clear Sky suggested.

"Stoneteller can't travel." Jayfeather hissed.

"Why should we all die for Stoneteller?" Clear Sky asked.

Jayfeather felt a small pang of anger. He leapt at Clear Sky, landing directly in front of him. Clear Sky was just a but taller, but that didn't scare Jayfeather.

"She's our leader!" Jayfeather said angrily. "You're welcome to travel on your own. I doubt that you'll be able to get far away enough from the snowstorm. You'll die from the cold."

"I know that I couldn't find my way off this mountain quick enough." Clear Sky said. "But if all of us looked for a way off the mountain, we'd most likely be able to get off fast enough."

"You heartless cat!" Jayfeather nearly unsheathed his claws. "Stoneteller is expecting kits! And you just want to leave her here?"

"You're the one to call me heartless. It's better that one of us die than all of us. We can just pick a new Stoneteller." Clear Sky said indifferently. Jayfeather tackled Clear Sky to the ground, pinning him down. He remembered a move that Brightheart had taught him. Swiftly, he delivered a strike right in between Clear Sky's nose and forehead. Like he had expected, Clear Sky passed out.

"Clear Sky!" Quiet Rain let out a gasp.

"He's just unconscious." Jayfeather said. "Anyone else have an objection?"

Silence.

"Good. This cave is big enough for all of us to sleep far away from the entrant. The entrant itself is pretty small. We can cover it up with some rocks to stop the snow from coming in." Jayfeather said. "We should hunt before the snowstorm. It's hard to see, so we'll send out a smaller group. Gray Wing, Falling Feather, and Clear Sky-"

Jayfeather fell silent.

"Ok, nevermind. Not Clear Sky. Dappled Pelt can go instead."

The three cats gathered together.

"While you're out there, try and get some larger rocks if you can." Jayfeather called as the three cats headed out.

They came back after an hour with an eagle. Dappled Pelt and Falling Feather had rolled three large stones back to the cave.

"Cover up the entrant. We'll split the eagle." Jayfeather said. "I think I'll go out and get some herbs. Stoneteller is really close to kitting."

"I'll come with you." Bright Stream said. "Just in case you run into anything."

Jayfeather nodded and padded out of the cave.
