All day, I read "The Girl in the Corner". It was about a girl named Summer who had just graduated high school and was trying to prepare for her move to New York City in the Fall. She wanted to make the best of the rest of her time in her hometown, and she wanted to become braver to make her move easier to handle.

I could relate to the book a little bit, because I was extremely shy around the majority of people and I was terrible at socializing with strangers. I thought that the book was written really well, and I couldn't stop reading it. I would definitely bug my best friend Alice about it until she read it, too.

It was already 7pm, so I made myself a cup of tea and decided on finishing the chapter and then texting Alice. In the book, Summer was at a party at her friend's house and was building up the courage to talk to a red-headed girl who seemed alone. There was a cliff-hanger at the end of the chapter, and I was debating whether or not to read the next chapter. Willpower and Socialization with Alice or Chapter 12? Alice could wait, I needed to read it!

Summer walked over to the red-headed girl and said hello. The red headed girl looked back at her and gave her a rude look. I sighed, disappointed. "That is not at all what I was expecting. Damn, she sounded really nice." Then, my cell phone rang. I was annoyed that I couldn't keep reading, but I answered anyway.

It was a number that I didn't recognize, but I decided to answer anyway. I cleared my throat and spoke as loud as I could muster. "Hello? Who is this?"
"Hello! Is this Emily? This is Adam from Reed's." My eyes widened. Already? God, I need this job. I tried my best to sound intelligent. "Yes, this is Emily. Hello, Adam! How are you?" There was a bit of a silence. "I'm doing well, thank you. I called about your job application. You seem very responsible, and I think that you're perfect for a job at Reed's. Would it be possible for you to start next week?"

My brain was in two conflicting places: A) This was the place I had fantasized about working at for years and I'm finally working there! There's books and coffee, what could be better?
B) Okay, I need to accept this opportunity with maturity and grace. I need to show Adam that I'm a mature and reasonable employee.
When the two reactions formed words, I just said, "Yes, I mean thank you, I'll see you soon, sir, um, have a good evening, goodbye."
I told you that I was extremely awkward.
