MEET CRISPIN

Also known as CrispinOTooleBateman on Wattpad, I am a writer. I write every day, seven days a week. It pays for my living and supports my family of six (four kids, me and my wife). Sometimes its hard, sometimes its filled with rejection and disappointment, but it is always great.

Second, I'm English. I was born in Oxford and I have all the arrogance and white male privilege that comes with it. I'm smart enough to work in other forms of the language and will even suffer you not putting a u in words that deserve it, but expect any help I give to be very British in outlook. I'm cutting and sarcastic, I'll probably offend you, and I have some very outspoken views about things like American high school, parenting and politics (pretty much in that order!). I swear a lot, and see no problem with it, and I can be quite brutal, but when I love something, I really love it and I'm as praising as I am damning.

Third, I'm on this journey too. I am constantly looking to improve my work and work towards that elusive mega-seller. I know what it's like to struggle, have your work rejected and scream "that's just not fucking fair!" at the wall. My advice will always only ever be that: advice. Take it, leave it, tell me I'm wrong or brilliant - it's all cool.

Finally my writing successes; I have over 3,000 published articles on the internet and have written about everything from toilet rolls to the future use of space stations for fashion marketing (no joke!), I have written novels as a ghost writer (can't tell you what..!), I've successfully self-published, and on Wattpad? Well, I won a Watty in 2018, shortlisted the ONC in 2019 and have four well-regarded entries for 2020, plus I won 14 slots in Wattpad's Aim to Engage 2019/20 shorts contest. I also plan to get a couple of 2020 Wattys too; one for me, one for my mentee!
