MEET CAROL
Also known as WriterOnTheIsland on Wattpad, I would like to start by saying how thrilled I am to be a part of the Wattpad Bootcamp Mentorship Program. Because next to writing, I enjoy editing and polishing best. And if I can help you polish your prose until it sparkles, then I'm capital "H" happy. Supporting other writers is such a gratifying experience, and let's face it, writing can be a pretty tough slog.
I am the author of four novels for young adults: Hannah & the Spindle Whorl, Hannah & the Salish Sea, Hannah & the Wild Woods, and most recently, The Picasso Project, which is available in both eBook and paperback format on Amazon. My "Hannah" stories are all set on Vancouver Island where I live and were published by Ronsdale Press. Book 1 received a 2011 silver medal Moonbeam award for Pre-Teen Fiction, and book 3 received a 2016/17 BC Chocolate Lily Award for BC's best novel. Pretty happy about that!
I teach a creative writing workshop titled, Serving up a Story, which is comprised of a series of exercises that focuses on FUN over FEAR (because if you aren't having fun, your writing isn't going to sparkle). When I'm not doing that, I busy myself with freelance editing, both structural and copywriting work. Compared to most Wattpaddians, I'm quite old, so I've been at this schtick for quite a while.
I also taught high school art for thirteen years, and I enjoy working with young people. They are more open to ideas and from my experience, are mostly fearless. I respect that!
When I'm not writing or editing, I'm off walking in the woods, drinking tea, painting at my easel, or having an in-depth conversation with Gordon, my beagle. My two sons are grown, and I share 2.5 acres of rural awesomeness with my sculptor husband of a whole bunch of years. (Yes, we are two artists who live together; it's something of a miracle that we are both still alive.)
