MEET CYNTHIA

Also known as CynthiaDagnal-Myron on Wattpad, I am honored to be a brand new Wattys Bootcamp Mentor this year. And I'm looking forward to meeting my very first mentee.

One of Wattpad's oldest members--and proud of it--I've had one novel, Educational Experience, featured on Wattpad. And another, Bae Boy, made the Wattys long-list in 2018.

I'm also an award-winning former features reporter for both the Chicago Sun Times and Arizona Daily Star, and a published author whose work has appeared in everything from Rolling Stone to HuffPo.

In addition to my writing, I've read and "rated" scripts for film producers, thanks to two pretty impressive mentors who became good friends as well: movie critic Roger "Thumbs up/Thumbs Down" Ebert and screenwriter/producer Blake "Save the Cat" Snyder.

I've also taught composition and literature at the high school and college level. So I've helped lots of people learn to write well and to love writing almost as much as I do.

Writing is my calling. In fact, I started writing before I could actually "write." As a toddler, I would babble little stories to myself as I scribbled lines on any piece of paper I could get my little hands on.

To this day, writing is how I make sense out of the worlds I live in. It's not just a hobby or even a profession to me. That voice in my head that dictates plots or introduces me to characters in search of plots is also my best friend and most astute "counselor." I trust and cherish it.

I don't have a "wish list" of genres. My own books have been narrative nonfiction, literary fiction, chicklit and, most recently, romance.

But I'm open to being shoved out of my comfort zone. There are literary worlds out there that I haven't explored nearly enough. So I'm counting on my mentees to lead me in new directions. And in return, I will do my best to help them make their work "Wattys-worthy."
