Josie's POV: As soon as Penelope came out of hiding, it was like everything seemed to slow down. The soldier's focus completely shattered, causing Hope to fall face first to the ground as I quickly rushed toward her. "Hope! Hope, are you alright", I asked in concern, noticing a gash on her forehead and bruises on her neck.
"J-josie? You remember", she asked shakily as tears filled my eyes.
"How could I ever forget you", I told her.
"Y...y-you need to get out of here", Hope whispered.
"We're not leaving you", I told her firmly.
"Enough", the soldier yelled, causing everyone to jump slightly. "You, girl. Get away from her", they demanded before I felt myself leave the ground.

Penelope's POV: My eyes widened slightly as Josie flew across the room, hitting the wall with a thud. "Jojo", I shouted, rushing toward her and helping her off the floor. "Are you okay", I questioned.
"Yeah...", she smiled.
"You sure made a life for yourselves didn't you", the soldier laughed cruelly, shaking their head. "Looks like you got all you wanted...", they nodded almost sadly. Their attention turned toward Hope as the girl was getting off the ground. "I...I guess it all makes sense...that day...", they stated, before their attention shifted back to me.
"Get out of here", Josie told them.
"I don't believe we've met, friend. I would suggest keeping that mouth of yours shut before it gets you killed", they warned her, causing me to slightly push Josie behind me. Their attention turned to me as they tilted their head.
"Leave her out of this", I warned.
"Don't be so dramatic. I didn't touch her", they said, causing me to look at them strangely. "Now, where was I? Oh...", they said, before pulling out what looked like a gun.
"Wait! Please, you don't have to do this", I exclaimed, staring at the gun in their hands.
"You're right", they nodded. "But it's so much fun", they laughed pointing the gun at Hope as my heart dropped, I moved forward, trying to ignore Josie's screaming as I dived in front of Hope before I felt pain shoot up my body, causing a scream to tear itself from my throat. My knees gave out as Josie quickly caught me, lowering me to the ground. I gasped slightly as tears quickly filled my eyes.

Josie's POV: I gasped as I lowered Penelope to the ground, the gunshot still ringing in my ears. "Pen", I exclaimed, pulling her into my lap as everything around me froze. I placed my hands over her stomach, trying to put pressure on the wound as blood pooled around us.
"J-jojo...", she got out, breathing shallowly as tears streamed down my face.
"Shh, it's gonna be okay", I whispered. "You're okay...", I nodded before her hand cupped my cheek, wiping the tears away tenderly.
"I'll g-go get help", Hope stated before I stopped her.
"Don't", I warned, my body trembling, as I gazed up into Hope's eyes.
