Davis: I'll be over in 5. Don't forget your money. We may or may not go to lunch after we are done...
Me: K, and where would we go?
Davis: Not sure, maybe Olive Garden or someplace super delicious like that
Me: I'm so down
I throw on a white sweater and put on a teddy jacket over it. I throw on black leggings and grab my wallet. I don't know if Thomas is going, but if he is, I will just have to ignore him.
No, he has church today. I'm free for the day.
My family has already left for church, so I'm home alone. I like it, it gives me time to think and calm down because heaven knows I have no time for that.
Suddenly, I hear a knock on our front door. I grab my small black Fjallraven Kanken backpack, run upstairs, and open the front door.
"Pickup for Taylor?" Davis teases.
"That's me, what's your price?" I reply as we walk to his truck.
"Let me help you up when you fall."
"When I fall? If I fall."
He laughs and opens the door for me. I climb up and sit down on the super nice black leather chair in the shotgun spot.
He shuts the door behind me and runs over to the driver's seat.
"I hope you don't mind, but Thomas needs a ride today. His car is in the shop." Davis says as he pulls out of my driveway.
Thomas is coming today?! Why isn't he at church? Davis, I do mind, please don't make me drive with Thomas.
"Umm, sure I don't mind." I reply, trying my hardest to conceal my frustration.
"I mean, I just wanted to ask because you did make out with..."
"Okay, I'll have you kno-"
Davis' phone starts to ring. Perfect timing, just perfect. Now I have to wait to tell him we didn't make out.
That closet is the biggest curse. It doesn't have to be. It worked out for Hunter and Chloe, so why does it have to stab me in the back?
"Sorry, it's Thomas." Davis says as he answers, "Hello?"
"Hey," Thomas says on speaker, "Just wanted to let you know I'm ready."
"You could have texted."
"But that would have been less safe, and if you got Taylor in the car, you gotta do everything you can to make sure she's safe."
Oh brother.
"Well, we are pulling up to your house now, so I'll see you in a second." Davis finishes, smiling from what Thomas said.
"See ya."
Davis hangs it up and smirks, "As you were saying?"
I spit out as fast as I can, "I was trying to say that nothi-"
"Hey guys!" Thomas says as he opens the truck door on Davis' side.
What luck I am having lately.
"Hey Thomas. How was your planning activity for the football finals trip?" Davis asks.
I will not contribute to the conversation. I lean my head on the cold window touched by the icy winter air and watch the leafless trees gradually go by faster as Davis enters the freeway.
"Great actually," Thomas remarks, "You guys will be blown away at what is on the itinerary."
Itinerary. Who speaks so formally nowadays?
