Chapter Three

The three of us stood outside my door. I was fidgeting as though my life depended on it. I'd been deathly quiet all morning, and I was too nervous to eat anything substantial. I already regretted it, knowing that it had probably been my last chance for a decent meal before coming here, but it was too late to change that now.

The door swung open, and I flinched. "Who the fuck are they?" Hi, Denki, welcome home. Thanks, Dad.

"Friends," I mumbled, staring at the ground.

"And why are they here?" he pressed. I shrugged.

"We invited ourselves over," Ei said, and he sounded like he was frowning. "Hope you don't mind. I'm Kirishima Eijiro."

"I'm Bakugo Katsuki. I really fucking hope you mind," added the blonde.

"You think this is funny? The hell do you think we're gonna do with two more useless twinks?" my dad yelled straight away, and I flinched again. I shook my head.

"B-but they're here already," I said, shrinking under his glare.

Finally, he sighed. "Whatever. Just get inside. They do anything stupid, it's your fault, got that?" After I nodded, he turned around and went inside.

We followed him, and he stopped again. "By the way, we have guests later tonight. Your aunt and uncle, and their friend. They're bringing their kids. Be on your best behavior, or stay out of our sight."

"Understood. Thanks for letting us stay here," Ei said, making the forced politeness seem natural.

"Whatever. Now, fuck off."

We all left and I showed them to my room. It was a small one-story house, and the whole way to my room was dirty. I knew Kat hated it already; he immensely disliked dirty spaces. There was garbage on the floor, including broken glass bottles and crushed cans, some of which weren't even empty.

As soon as the door shut behind me, they both enveloped me in a big hug. I was grateful that they hadn't come from behind; I was super jumpy and hyper-aware.

"Can't wait to spend my week with this fuck-tard," Kat grumbled.

"And there are more fuck-tards on the way. I wonder if they'll be decent when the other guys are here. Surely they don't want to leave a bad impression on strangers, right?" Ei offered, and Kat scoffed.

"You think they care about the impression they leave on strangers? I'm sorry, but have you met literally yourself?" he pointed out, and Ei sighed.

"Yeah, good point," he admitted. "You alright?"

I just shrugged in response. I think we all jumped a little when a shrill voice shrieked for me. "Get your ass over here, you ungrateful, insolent, good-for-nothing brat!" Hello, Mom. Good to be back.

I only really hesitated for a moment after my boyfriends let go of me. Then I left, closing the door again. I knew she wanted me alone, so I shook my head when they tried to come with me.

I quickly hurried to her and Dad's room. She never left, except for meals. She was bedridden. It was about the best my dad was willing to do for her.

"Is it true you've got two boys over? What did I tell you about bringing boys over?" she asked, practically screeching like a banshee.

"They insisted," I lied. "I couldn't stop them coming if I tried."

"What, you suddenly have friends who want to spend Christmas with you? A pathetic piece of shit like you? Kids these days have terrible judgement of people, you don't deserve them." That much is true. Ei and Kat are way too good for me. "Did Dad tell you we're having company for dinner?" I nodded. "They should be here soon. Go make dinner, and have your friends help you. It might be half-decent if you're not the only one working on it."

I nodded again, then hurried out. I peeked my head inside my bedroom door. "Sh-she wants us to make dinner," I said softly.

"Well, I can do that," Kat got up off the couch. Ei followed him quickly.

"Good luck with that, everything in the fridge is probably alcohol or expired," I admitted.

"I'll make it work," he shrugged. I had been correct; half a cheese pizza that smelled two weeks old, a six-pack of who knows what, and a moldy head of lettuce. "The fuck does she want us to do with this?"

I shrugged. "Reheat the pizza, at least?" I suggested, and he rolled his eyes.

"I think it's giving me radiation poisoning," Kat replied. "What's in the freezer?" he opened it. The freezer was home to a tray of ice cubes, two bottles of vodka, and about a thousand boxes of frozen tsukemen noodles. Upon closer inspection, one could see that they had in fact been spoiled since July of last year.

He sighed again. "This is gonna have to do."

"At least we don't have to worry about not having enough," Ei pointed out, pulling out a few boxes. "This should be fine, right?"

"Mhmm," I nodded.

"Well, this shouldn't be difficult at all. It's also probably not a three-person job, so you two can relax," Kat said, clearly not about to take no for an answer. I just leaned back, my hands against the counter, and watched him. Even with gross, frozen, expired food, Kat was clearly in his element once he got started. Despite the circumstances, I still found it calming to watch him move.

Ei seemed to want to hold my hand, but I was weary of my parents, not wanting them to notice. So we hooked pinkies instead, and he was fine with that. And despite my face's lack of emotion, I was happy, too. The start to the night definitely could've gone worse, although I was sure that was only going to go downhill.
