Chapter 13
Josh felt good in science.
Even though he felt that science could be boring sometimes, he still felt good because he had been assigned his lab partner for the year.
His partner was Ada.
And he couldn't have been happier.
But one bad thing was the fact that they had their first assignment. But at least they got to work in partners, so Josh was happy that he would be able to work with Ada.
Right now, Josh thought that he was so lucky. He seemed to have a girlfriend who was completely devoted to him.
It felt great.
Ada was great.
But, often while he was alone in his room at night, Josh would wonder why a girl like Ada would go for a guy like him. It was a little strange how a person who was used to having the world at her fingertips would go for a little farm boy. That was all Josh was; a little farm boy, and Ada was living life to the fullest with everything she could possibly ask for.
Josh forced himself to stop thinking of that.
He didn't want to complain about his relationship.
He actually had his first girlfriend and he really liked her.
Josh didn't want to think badly of her.
He didn't want to have doubts about his relationship, but he didn't know how to stop them from coming into his head.
And then Josh couldn't stop thinking of Ella.
Before he started going out with Ada, he and Ella were the best of friends, but now she seemed to be mad at him for some reason.
Josh didn't know why.
He hadn't done anything wrong, or at least nothing that he knew of, and yet Ella was still angry at him.
It hurt to have his best friend mad at him for some unknown reason, and it was so unfair. Josh had no idea what to do, and he even though he didn't want to admit it, was too afraid to ask Ella about it. He mostly feared losing her as a friend forever, and he really didn't want that.
"Maybe you could come over to my house tonight, Josh, so we can work on the assignment," said Ada.
Josh nodded in agreement when he was brought back to the present, "sounds good," he replied.
"What were you thinking about before?"
"Nothing. What makes you think I was thinking about something?" Josh lied.
Ada snorted, and Josh couldn't help wondering what it was about. But he put it behind himself and it was forgotten in the space of ten minutes.
"You were just completely blank before," said Ada.
"Well, I wasn't thinking about anything," replied Josh, "what do you want to do for the assignment?"
"Horses, of course."
The assignment involved the students doing research on an animal and writing a report together. It was a research report, and Josh hated writing them. But at least he would be able to spend time with his horse and say that he was actually studying, because he would be. Studying with the real thing would be great.
And, anyway, Josh was like a walking textbook about horses. His mother and father both passed on their knowledge of horses to him, and Josh was continually learning from them. So, Josh knew that he and Ada would get an A for their assignment, and he was so happy about it.
