Chapter 21

"What is a star?" Ella asked Kayla.

The girls needed a distraction while they were on the trail. Ella had so much to worry about, but she needed to calm down, so some more study would have helped with that, she was sure of it.

"A small white mark on the horse's face, on the forehead," replied Kayla, "something harder, please."

"You never know," said Ella, "they might ask us simple stuff."

"Fine," replied Kayla, "so, what is a flank?"

"The part of the skin between the stifle and abdomen."

"What is a goose rump?" asked Ella.

"A pointed rump," replied Kayla.

"Okay, this is boring. I think we know everything about horses. What do you think?" said Ella.

Kayla nodded in agreement, "I think so too."

With the questions and answers over and done with, Ella returned her attention to Josh. She wondered what was happening with him and the idiots on the trail. They probably didn't even ask permission to use the horses, so Cody probably would have been looking for them back at the ranch, wondering where they went. Ella knew that he would have been furious when he found out what the horses were really doing.

"Do you think Josh will break up with Ada?" asked Ella.

"Do you still like him?" replied Kayla.

"I do, but he hates me now. Ever since I slapped Ada."

"He'll get over it."

"Will he? He's a guy; don't they like to hold grudges?"

Kayla shook her head, "not Josh. He's not the type of guy to hold grudges."

"I don't know Josh as well as you do. What is he like?"

"And you say you like him," Kayla teased.

"What? He's handsome with those handsome green eyes and caring personality. I don't have to know him to know I am in love with him," replied Ella.

Kayla laughed.

Ella smiled.

"Don't worry, I am sure he will realise that Ada's not the girl for him and he will dump her," said Kayla.

Ella smiled. She hoped that Kayla was right because even though Josh seriously hated her now, she was still in love with him and she wanted him to be her boyfriend. She couldn't wait for the day to come when Josh would break up with Ada because that would be her dream come true.

It maybe have been a mean and selfish dream come true, but it was her dream come true, and she really wanted it. Ella had heard of dreams coming true, so wasn't her's allowed to come true as well? Maybe it was rare for a dream like her's to come true, but surely it was possible.

"Where do you think they are? I didn't think this trail was that long," said Ella.

"Maybe they went on a different trail," replied Kayla.

"Maybe."

"Let's trot for a bit. Maybe we will be able to find them sooner."

The girls then kicked their horses into a trot. Ella really wanted to find Josh as soon as possible. Maybe, she thought, they would conveniently bump into each other. That would have been good, Ella decided, because then it wouldn't look like they were actually looking for them. So, they had to find them soon.
