Chapter 13
“You’re up early.” Yasmin smiled.
“Couldn’t sleep.” I kept thinking of questions to ask Austin all night long. ‘Where do you sleep?’ ‘Where do you eat and drink?’ ‘Where do you live?’ or ‘Why do I have a connection to Fairlight... the garden... you?’ But then I had a question to ask Yasmin since she was at my dad's house early and she was in her pyjamas, “Did you stay last night?”
“Yeah, I keep some of my clothes in your father’s room.” She said nervously as she sipped her hot tea that she had on the counter.
“Why don’t you just live here with dad?” I suggested but it was meant to be more of a snide comment to myself.
“Are you sure?” Yasmin's face lit up but with suspicion but I decided to go along with it because it was too early to argue or have any drama.
“Yeah, why not?” It was either last night put me in a really good mood or I finally could see there was no hope for mum and dad getting back together, the best thing is to move on – it’s the best thing for everyone.
“I’ll talk to your father when he wakes up then.” She was like a cheshire cat.
It was 9:30am when:
“Why did you set the alarm so early?” Riley moaned slumping down the stairs like an elephant - not that she was! She is so skinny that she can escape jail if she got arrested!
“Yeah and you left a note on your desk saying come down stairs.” Emma and Ashley followed behind.
“I did it because Austin wants to take all of us somewhere today.” I gave them a look.
“Well, sunglasses and shorts today girls.” Ashley laughed looking out the window because it was surprisingly sunny for the UK.
“...and sun cream.” Emma added. Emma was always the sensible and smart one but we love her to bits!
“Lexi, Austin’s here and here are some new clothes your father bought for you – they were meant to arrive before you did – please put them away.” Jayne gave me a basket of new clothes.
“Hey Lexi can I just use the mirror in your bathroom?” Austin rubbed his arm.
Upstairs I began to put my new clothes away whilst Austin was in my bathroom.
“Vain much?” I joked.
“Ouch!” He said with the tap running.
“Are you okay,” I asked walking to the bathroom, “Oh, what happened?”
“Oh I just walked into the garden gate.” He said it so casually I would have thought that it’s not a big deal if it wasn’t for the fact his arm looked so bruised and it was bleeding under his skin which made it a big deal. I just couldn't believe the gate could do that much damage!
I put a cold, wet tissue on it, “It’s really bruised and bleeding under your skin!” There’s no way a gate could do that!
Austin smiled even though he was in pain, so I kissed his arm very gently and got a painkiller from the cupboard and a bottle of water from the mini-fridge. After he swallowed it I carried on putting my clothes away.
“What’s that dress for?” he pointed to the long blue dress hanging on the back of the wardrobe door.
“What this thing?” I held it up against me and then had a long look at it, “it was going to be my prom dress.”
“‘Going to be?’” He asked.
“Well I never got to go.”
“Why?” he asked a short follow-up question.
