Chapter 3
We had stayed up all night talking and catching up, secrets (of course I didn’t mention Austin), sweets, and makeovers: typical girl stuff.
As the sun seeped through the soft curtains I realised I woke up earlier than the others, so I got up and then Jayne walked past.
“Hey Jayne, what are you up to today?” I yawned.
“Oh well I have to work over time, I have to clean the house, cook the meals, run errands and some work in the fields” she coughed.
“I’ll work in the fields and clean the house, but I can’t cook to save my life” I winked.
“Thank you so much, oh, if you feel like it’s too much then tell me” she patted my shoulder.
I went straight to get changed put on shorts, a t-shirt and my trainers, then I ran – like I was free – across the fields to the garden (as I promised).
I pushed the faded wooden door that had beautiful white flowers that were slowly beginning to bloom all up it. It made no noise and as I opened the secret door to the sweet-smelling fantasy that lies behind it; Austin was there starring at the rippling crystal water.
“You’re here early” I smiled.
“Yep, I didn’t think you were going to show up” he quickly rose to his feet like the flowers blossoming.
“I keep my promises. Hey do you want to help me out today?” I nudged him.
“Well sure yeah, but where?” he smiled then frowned.
“Up at the ‘big house,’ why?” I joked.
“Sorry I don’t think it’s a good idea” Austin stared at the ground.
“Well I can sneak you inside, and my dad wouldn’t know and mum lives in London?” I suggested with a laugh. “It’s an adventure!”
“Sure why not? I love adventures!” he swung open the garden door.
We ran back through the fields and got to the house. We climbed up to the balcony since I didn't know if I could trust dad's employees not to tell him. Luckily the girls had gotten up. So we came into the house through my bedroom.
“Quick this way” I checked the hallway and bumped into Fred.
“Oh hey Fred, how’s it going? Is my dad about?” I smiled to pretend nothing was going on.
“I’m fine, no your dad has a meeting in town and won’t be back until five. What are you up to?” he smiled intrigued.
“I’m sorry, I know you said stay away but I’m helping Lexi out with work, errands and cleaning. Fred, please don’t mention it to Mr Willows...” he babbled on.
“You know Fred?” I froze.
Austin pulled me away to go get the cleaning supplies “Come on we have work to do.”
We were having a blast! We joked around; danced terribly to songs and at one point I accidently got the bubbles from the soapy water on his face, which made him look a bit like Santa. So we had a bubble fight.
We put away the cleaning stuff and ran out to the fields to work. (but this time it was the ones with the animals). It was horrifically disgusting! Poo, dirt and mud mixed together.
“Ewe gross” I said cleaning up the manure.
“Ha ha need a hand?” Austin helped me climb over it all.
“Oh I’m stuck” I laughed with a moan.
“Here untie your shoes” he put out his arms.
“Okay” I untied them and he carried me out of the mud, poo and dirt, onto the normal clean fields.
