Chapter 15
“Did you have fun?” Yasmin opened the doors.
“Yeah it was awsome!” Ashley answered.
“Austin would you like to stay for dinner?” Yasmin offered kindly.
“If it’s fine with you then yes please” How could a boy so polite and caring be so mean? “Come on, I want to show you something, Lexi.”
When he said my name I forgot that I was annoyed at him.
Austin led me to the garden and past the lake and where I’d met him to a willow tree.
“It’s a tree.” I pointed. “A willow tree that’s over-grown.” Its leaves and branches hang on the floor.
“Look,” he lifted up the leaves and branches to reveal another part of the garden because it had a locked door, “I found it before but it was locked. When you arrived I forgot about it until yesterday. Last night I had another look at it and that time it was unlocked. I explored and I won’t say the rest.”
I twisted the wooden handle, in clicked and then the door opened a jar. Pushing it, I took a deep breath and went in. It was another part of the garden. It looked like a Greek garden and there were five tiny rivers that met to create a lake.
“Wow,” I knew I should have been angry at him but I can’t something physically is stopping me, “What other secrets are you hiding?” I smiled and he took it like a joke.
After exploring and learning that the secret, secret garden led to Fire Hills, we ran back to the house.
“I’m going to lose a lot of weight from all this running!” I panted.
“Dinner’s ready.” Yasmin called us.
“Why is there a seventh plate of food?” I asked curiously.
“Well it was meant to be a surprise, your dad managed to get out of working late. He should be here anytime now.” As she said ‘now,’ dad walked in through the door.
“Dad, you’re home.” I was actually surprised.
He put his brief case away, took his coat off and settled down in the chair.
“You haven’t told her have you?” dad asked excited.
“No I was waiting for you.”
“Told me what?” I asked being nosy.
“Well I took your advice” Yasmin began the convocation, “We discussed moving in together...”
“... and then I suggested instead of moving in together, why not get married?” dad finished.
I felt sick in my stomach but I didn’t show it and congratulated them when Yasmin said that she said yes.
“We are going to a year to hire the place we want to get married because they are so full.” Dad was relieved that I didn’t do a repeat of last time.
“I won’t replace your mum; I’ll be a second mum... like a sister.” Yasmin was trying hard to find the right words.
“No, no I understand completely.” I wanted to be grown-up about it.
We were all sitting in the living room watching a DVD when the house phone rang at nine.
“I’ll get it.” I jumped up. I answered the phone in the kitchen, “Hello?”
It was mum, “Hi sweetie, just calling to say goodnight.”
“Okay, how did your date go?” I leaned against the counter.
