Chapter 23

“I better start packing when the girls wake up.” I sipped my tea.

“I’m already packed.” He leaned forward.

“Are you going with mum or getting the train?” I put my plate in the sink.

“Going home with mum, why don’t you come with us and there’d be less hassle with the suitcases on the train?” Mason suggested.

“Alright but as long as I can drive,” I’ve got my licence but no car and driving clears my head, "I like driving. I've got my liscence but I don't have a car yet."

Emma and Rob snuck downstairs because they woke up early and they made themselves a cup of tea each.

“Rob, I’m sorry that Mike’s not driving you home.” I got out a plate for them both.

“Nah, I’m sure I can get a train ticket for a later train.”

“You can have my ticket?” I laid the plates on the table, “I’m driving home so it’ll be no use to me.”

“Thank you, you’re awsome.” He got the butter out.

“Are you okay?” Emma got the bread out.

I just nodded, swallowed hard and put on a brave face but I think my eyes spoke the truth because Mason asked, “What actually happened yesterday and don’t say ‘it’s nothing’ because it obviously is something?”

“Look I’m not ready to talk about it okay?” I washed my plate aggressively.

They all ate their breakfast in silence and the rest of the households woke up to the alarm. Washing up Rob and Emma’s plates, the rest was also eating their breakfast in silence.

“Can someone actually say something?” I leaned over the sink for a moment and then carried on scrubbing the plates.

“You know that’s my job?” Jayne walked in and broke the silence.

“I just thought after everything you’ve done for us, this is the least I could do.” I was actually doing to keep my mind off of... him and last night.

“But I get paid and you don’t, so scoot over.” I scrubbed at something that wasn’t even there, I was going mad! Eventually Jayne took the sponge and plate from my hands.

My hair fell in my face, “I think the sooner we get out of here the better it will be – for everyone.” I pushed it back with my wet hands.

“Go get dressed; pack and then mum will be here soon,” Mason held my shoulders gently unlike Mike, “and then if you still don’t want to talk later when we’re at home then that’s okay, remember if you want to talk I’m here.”

Oh, I

will be talking when we get home! Not to you though, I’ll be talking to mum! She’s the one who needs to talk – she’s got a lot of explaining to do! These were the words I held back, but only just, my lips pressed against each other like they wanted me to say it; however I just said, “Thank you and I know I can talk to you.”

Dad’s got some explaining to do but right now I can’t stand to be in this place.

After having a wash and getting dressed, I began to pack. I pulled out my suitcase from under my bed. I pack my washing first, then my wash stuff then some of my clean clothes I had packed – just incase it rained or got cold. (This is the UK, just like people, the weather can change in a flash.) I squeezed my make-up and jewellery into my rucksack because I needed some space in it for my birthday presents and cards.
