At nine the next morning, all of Team Valiant was at City Hall. The whole group was murmuring amongst themselves about the hearing.
"Silence!" Emery, the head councillor declared. A hush fell over the entire congregation. "You all know why we are gathered here today, but we have an extra surprise. We are able to unmask the head of the Neverseen. You all will finally meet the mastermind of the destruction." Councillor Darek and Councillor Noland pulled out a masked figure. They unmasked the person, and everyone gasped.
"M-mom?" Keefe asked, falling to his knees. Sophie raced to his side and held him as he sobbed.
"Yes Keefe. I am the head of the Neverseen. But you shouldn't be mad. I did it for you. I did it so that you could fulfill your legacy." Before Gisela could say anything more, Darek threw the mask back over her face and dragged her away.
"Shhhh, it's ok. Just ignore her," Sophie whispered to Keefe. "It's ok, she's gone." Keefe quickly wiped his eyes and stood up, his usual smirk back on his face.
"Gotta love my mom," he joked before sitting down in the row of chairs that was provided for the team.
"Now Team Valiant will vote on whether or not to send the Neverseen to jail," Emery continued. Sophie looked over at Keefe, and he looked torn. Sophie completely understood. To him wasn't a matter of sending a dangerous gang away for good, it was a matter of sending his mom to jail. "Wylie Endal, what have you decided?"
"Keep them," Wylie answered.
"Stina Heks?"
"Put them in jail. Duh."
Linh Song?"
"Keep them."
"Dex Dizznee?"
"Jail."
"Tam Song?"
"Keep them."
"Fitz Vacker?"
"Jail."
"Biana Vacker?"
"Keep them."
"Sophie Foster?"
Sophie glanced at Keefe before answering, "Jail." She knew it might hurt Keefe, but she had to do what was best for her city.
"Keefe Sencen?"
Keefe paused. The votes were tied. If he said jail, they would go to jail, but if he said stay, then they would stay. Taking a shaky breath, Keefe said, "Jail."
