The sound of the alarm was enough to wake me up. I thought that 5 am was too early for any sane person to wake up but today, I had places to be.
I had to get the train from Leeds to London. I have only ever been to London once before, and that was when I was tiny. I was certain I was going to get lost. Even with a map I will still manage it somehow.
The more I think of why I'm going the more I start to get nervous. I've sang in pubs in Leeds before, but no one really listens, maybe the odd person does.
The crowd and the celebrity judges terrify me. What if they don't like me? I knew about all of the judges except from one. Ricky something or other. He is a lead singer in a band that I don't listen to. There's always at least one person talking about them in Leeds. Now that the lead singer in on The Voice, they're all people talk about, which was the aim I guess.
Everyone keeps saying that if he turns around I should go on his team, I protested that I'm not going on his team because he's in a band and he's from Leeds. I wouldn't go on his team if I got given the choice.
I walked down the long and winding roads trying to remember the lyrics to the song I'm going to sing. When I eventually got there I was ushered into the waiting room and was interviewed. It was a long interview considering they're only going to show four seconds of it on TV.
Straight after the interview I was literally shoved onto the stage. The lights were blinding and the crowd was deadly silent. Here goes nothing.
I closed my eyes and started to sing. I concentrated on the song rather than on the people in the crowd and the judges.
As soon as the song was over I opened my eyes to see all four judges turned around. I was smiling like an idiot and even more so when Kylie asked me my name, my age and where I was from. Ricky smiled an looked even more smug when I said I was from Leeds.
Ricky was out of the question. I swore to everybody I knew that I wasn't going on his team if I could help it in any way. He certainly did himself no favours whatsoever by looking like he had me in the bag. I quickly chose Kylie and Ricky looked confused disheartened. In a way, that was his fault.
