The air was cold. I felt the rushing wind around my wings. The blue sky got brighter and brighter as we went up. Angie Town was close; I could feel it. I wasn't ready to face my death quite yet, but Urie shouldn't have been either. I have to see her before she is faded. I had to.
The gates looked bigger than they did before, more guarded. I couldn't shake the feeling something was off. The sparkle in Angie town wasn't there. Not the way I remember it.
I grabbed Lucas's hand and reached for the gate with my other. My face was burning with anticipation, and my anger began to grow when I opened the gates. I couldn't hold myself up. My legs began to shake, and I fell.
"Careful, Raf. You're pregnant," he said lifting me by my arm. I stood my ground. Angie Town was deserted, and I had no clue as to how, but I knew who. How the hell could she pull something like this off?
"Wh-where is everyone," I stuttered. Lucas shrugged his shoulders, and looked down at my weary body. He put his hand on my shoulder, and I moved away. I couldn't handle his touch. Not with everything going on.
Walking through the streets, it was a blank silence. The wind rushed my hair. I took 20 minutes without Lucas's comfort, but then I saw it.
The town house was overflowing with angels, and I knew she was gone. All angels came to a cremation. That's how an angel would go out. They would be burned with holy oil.
I stared up and Lucas and took his hand and walked up. The angels were surrounding the town hall. My appearance wasn't going to be a happy one. Who knows how many people know how she died.
I saw Arken along with Miki, Dolce, and Gabe. They all stood together holding hands. It was what I had anticipated at all. I was truly expecting to be able to see here before the burning. This scarred me. The possibility that I would be recognized for what I did, as I was stepping into a burning fire.
"I want to be closer to her. I need to be closer," I said looking at Lucas's hand in mine. I squeezed it harder, and he looked at my eyes. I could tell he thought I was lost. Truth be told, I was. I was completely lost without Urie. She was so much more to me than any friend. She was my sister and I couldn't stand here without seeing her face. I had to see her once more.
"It's not smart, as you know, but I believe a public appearance would be your death, Raf," Lucas said. I understood, and nodded. "Then I'm going with you."
"No way. Arken is there and he will-" I began.
"Does it look like I give a fuck. Raf I care more about you than I have ever care about. Whether or not I'm in love with you is a different conversation, but I care way too much for you to walk to your death alone," he said putting his arm around my shoulder gesturing towards the building.
The large columns stood high as I walked through. I looked up to the large stairs connecting to the chapel. They looked taller, bolder, higher.
I watched the angels as none gave me a look. I suppose they might not have known my whereabouts of the past few weeks. It's was as well possible that they were ignoring me as well.
Lucas stood by my side which frightened me. His touch made me quiver. The promise I made to Sulfus rang through my head. I left his hand so I could ignore my thoughts. I looked through the glass door at the end of the hallway.
There she lay. Urie dead center of everyone. Every angel surrounding. I dropped my head in shame of myself. I took a two back breathing harder and harder with every step. Something felt off, and it wasn't only Urie's death that made me feel this way. It was something in the air making me feel the way I do. I looked to Lucas who was staring at me with deep eyes. I was on the verge of either hitting him or crying. maybe both. Emotions were always easy to control for me, but this was too much.
I walked to the door and put my hand to the handle of the door. I rest my hand across the gold plated handle for a minute. Lucas came behind me to open the door. I stepped through as eyes approached my face, and left. I saw MIki look back, shocked. Her eyes wandered to Lucas, and back to me.
"Think fly," I said. "Miki, I couldn't stay away. I had to see her just once. This is all my fault, and I could have stopped it," I started to tear up.
"This is not your fault. It's Reina's. So what if you love Sulfus? Reina has no right," she said looking at Dolce. Dolce looked to see my face, and she smiled. I could tell she wanted to run over with open arms, but didn't cause a scene.
I nodded towards Miki. Arken looked at Miki, and looked back at me. His expression was calm looking at my face, but seeing me with Lucas gave him an unwelcoming expression. His stride was long, and I stood behind Lucas. We were staring to cause a scene. "Don't touch her," Lucas stood up for me. I gripped his shoulder with one hand, shaking.
"Lucas, I would advise you to step away. You realize Raf has committed yet another sacrilege. One more serious. If you stand here, I will have to arrest you as well," he said holding his hand out, hoping he would take it. He didn't. "Bad decision. I though more of you, son."
"Don't you dare lay a hand on her," Lucas said back me up with him. "She has done no such thing. You have no proof," he said. He knew very well my situation, and lied to protect me.
"I agree; you have no proof," Quinn said standing at the altar. Her purple and black remain intact, and her hair flowed in the wind. The boots she wore clicked across the ground as she walked. "I realize this is unexpected. If you want to harm Raf, then you will have to go through me."
Arken stood still as her approach got closer. She faced the white bearded man, and looked up. "I dare you to touch me," I couldn't figure out her game. She was daring Arken to break the VETO "Well?" she added.
"What are you trying, Quinn?" he started. His look got stern as Quinn stood in between Arken and I. "I will not play your game. What are you trying to get at?" he stood his posture.
"You don't have the guts old man. I can't let you take Raf, but if you have the guts to break the VETO, then she is all yours," Quinn said. Something was off, and this was it. Why was it so important that Arken break the VETO?
I started to back away from the both of them. Quinn was my friend, and I trusted her to deal with Arken on her own. "Lucas, we have to get out of here, now." I whispered. He nodded. his hand grabbed mine, and he whispered a spell, and we were gone.
We landed in the driveway of his house. I saw a strand of purple hair out of the corner of my eye. "Hannah?" I said taking a step towards the porch. She looked at me wide eyed.
"I have been waiting for your arrival. I am here to tell you Sulfus went looking for Kabale. He had an urgent message for here," Hannah said. Her tone was making me think something was horribly wrong. Her eyes showed the same story. I couldn't tell what was wrong.
All I knew was that Arken was on my ass, and Quinn was backing me up. When Lucas said I couldn't trust her, what did he mean? She seemed to be perfectly helpful to me. Never the less, I may as well take his advice. Now my only goal was to find Sulfus. Where the devil was he?
