February 14th, 1988 Charlotte, North Carolina

" Uhh I hate valentines day." I groaned scrunching my face up and clutching onto my book bag strap as I looked at all the girls holding their gifts and roses.

"What!" Donald laughed throwing his head back. " I've never in my life head any girl say that they hate this holiday. If anything you should love Valentines Day."

"What's there to like anyway. All these people showing off their big expensive gifts and rubbing it in single people's faces. I hate it and honestly I never come to school on this day every year but I need to keep my grades up. Especially since it's our senior year."

" So you're telling me you've never received anything for valentine's before?"

"I don't like admitting it but... I have never received anything from valentines day." I sighed lowly as I turned to open my locker. " It's kind of embarrassing because everyone I know has gotten something before. I don't know why something like that bothers me but it does, you know."

He nodded his head in response as he listened to me rant.

" Well if we're being technical...." I paused. "I have gotten a valentines day present before but it was from my parents." I lowly laugh.

"Yeah well 'technically' your right." He added giggling.

I clutched all my books to my chest as I closed my locker, " I know I'm talking too much" I laughed. "But I just hope one day I can have something like my parents. They may not be perfect but I know for sure it's very real. I'm actually really lucky I grew up in a home with the both of my parents. I look up to them and I also look up to you Donald." I said biting my lip.

" Lisa I have something to tell you-" Donald started.

" Hey Lisa." Tyrin smiled as he held three big balloons, a huge teddy bear, and a box of chocolates with a card poorly taped on top of it.

I immediately smiled as everyone in the hallway cooed.

"What's all this!" I smiled widely almost speechless.

" You like it? I have more stuff I brought for you in my c-"

" I don't even feel right excepting these gifts ." I said very unsure.

" Well I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable-"

"Tyrin. The last thing I'm feeling is uncomfortable." I smiled looking up at him. "I'm very touched. This was really thoughtful of you." I gave him a tight hug as we rocked back and forth.

" Yo, Donald." I laughed turning my attention to Donald who was staring into space. " Would you mind helping me put this stuff in my car."

" Uhh- y-yeah of course."

Tyrin , Donald, and I snuck out through the back of the building so we could go to the student parking lot without getting in trouble for going off campus.

As we reached his car he struggled to open his car door because of all the stuff he had in his hand.

" Here let me help you." I held my hand out, walking towards him to grab some of the gifts from him.
