'When a flower doesn't bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.' - Alexander Den Heijer

I rest my head on the pillows of the luxurious bed, my body sinking into the soft, golden sheets when I realised it was useless to even try and leave this room.

How he was able to control me had me completely bewildered.

I could feel my heart thumping in my chest as the events of today finally caught up with me. It was so frustrating that Aldéric had disclosed absolutely nothing regarding his motives.

I hated not knowing as I counted the seconds in my head until he returned. I was sure it was close to an hour before I heard his footsteps approach the door. The door opens swiftly as he makes his way inside, his gaze instantly finding mine and sending a weird sensation through me, one that gave me goosebumps.

Surely that isn't a good sign.

I use my elbows to prop myself up on the bed and cross my legs in front of me, my eyes following him as he walks across the room. My eye brows furrow when his gaze lingered on my neck, "You need a new collar." He mumbles to himself.

I jump to my knees, gaining his attention, "Please don't. I don't like wearing them." My voice is uneven as I avert my eyes to the sheet of the bed.

"It's the law," I hear the sound of a draw being pulled open and then closed before I can feel him lingering over me. I feel my heart sink but he tries to ease my worry, "But this is a lot nicer than your last one."

My head lifts slightly to find a gorgeous collar in his hands causing my eyes to widen. It's made of pure gold and is decorated with clear crystals. His surname is engraved in beautiful lettering;

Ramanez

I don't protest as he leans forward, his scent enveloping me before he locks the collar in place around my neck. "It suits you." He breaths into my ear, his warm breath fanning the side of my face before he pulls away, taking that delicious smell with him.

What was wrong with me? I have to remember he is still a vampire.

He strides towards a golden wardrobe, opening it to pull out a white, silk nightgown and then passes it to me when he walks back to the bed. I eye it warily. It was very short and had a deep neckline which would surely give a good view of my breast.

"Get changed."

I feel my bottom lip trembling when I ask, "Can you turn around?"

His eyes dance with amusement, the tiniest smirk playing on his lips. If I weren't looking directly at him, I wouldn't have noticed it. "Seriously, after you've been wearing that all night." He says, referring to my transparent dress. I feel my cheeks heat with embarrassment at how dumb I must of sounded.

"Just change." He says, his eyes challenging me to disobey.

I bite my bottom lip, my fear mixed with my anger as I try to unzip the back of my dress. I'm unable to reach though and it frustrates me knowing I'm going to need his help. "I can't unzip it." His eyes dart to mine. He nods and walks towards me as I turn around, my back now facing him. I move my hair to the left side of my neck allowing him a view of the zipper. He pulls it down but suddenly halts when he reaches the middle of my back.
