(12) Lincoln's Goodbye

-a month later-

Madison had her mom watch the twins in the car. "Are you sure about this honey?" Alice said as they pulled into the Peters shop parking lot.

"Yeah. Just watch them." She said

Sophomore year for them hadn't started yet. Edwin Peters seen her walking up the parking lot.

"Hey son you got company." Edwin said as Lincoln worked under a car.

Lincoln rolled out and stood up. He rolled his eyes "For godsakes.." he said

"Son. I know that she broke your heart. But atleast see what she wants. I didnt raise you to be rude." Edwin said

"I already know what she wants." He said as he wiped his hands and walked out.

He stopped her from her coming in. "I told you.." he said but she cut him off.

"Yeah I know. I just wanted to talk Linc." She said

"I told you not to call me that anymore." He said

She looked down. "Madison I thought that I have made it pretty clear that I dont want to give you a second chance." He said

She looked up at him with tears in her eyes. "Dont look at me like that. You fucked up.." he said as he pulled her to his truck.

"And I apologized!" She said

"Mads you cheated! And I somehow am suppose to be okay with that! Just because you have no memory of it doesnt justify it!" He yelled

"But I love you Lincoln please." She said

"No..you know why my mom left. You were there for me when she left. And you go and do the same damn thing to me." He said

"You know what Im gonna go. Sorry that I even wasted my fucking time. I hate you Lincoln." She said as tears fell.

"Mads.." he said as she started to walk away.

Lincoln swallowed hard as he pressed his palms against his tail gate. Edwin came up behind him

"Son that was uncalled for. Unlike your mother she came here asking for another chance. Your mother took off when she got caught." Edwin said

Lincoln looked down. "Go to her and talk. I know that you dont want to give her another chance and with us moving soon. You need to be honest about the big changes in your life." Edwin said

"Yeah." Lincoln said

Edwin went back inside the shop. Lincoln got in his truck and drove over to her house. Bucky hosted Steve's birthday party there when she was staying at the hospital so he knew where to go.

Bucky seen him pull in as he helping her put the twins down. "Um Mads..he is here." He said

She wiped tears as she laid Bodie down in his crib. Bucky went downstairs and let him in.

"She's upstairs. And if you wake up the babies I will fucking punch you.." he said

"Okay..damn man." Lincoln said

Lincoln found her room after checking all the rooms. She was sitting on the couch at the end of her bed. Bucky sat outside the door to make sure he didnt need to intervene.

"Mads Im sorry for yelling. I..I do love you. But I cant give you a second chance." He said as he knelt down in front of her.

"Why? I said I was sorry and that I love you. It didnt mean anything Lincoln I swear it was a drunken mistake." She said

"I understand that it didnt mean anything. But look at me I cant ever trust you two alone together. You two share a house and babies. Madison you and I will never work. Your family has never liked us being together. Its better this way..especially now." He said as tears welled.

"What do you mean especially now?" She said confused.

"I um..well I went to a open mic a few weeks ago. And there was a record producer there. He liked what he heard. So Im moving to Nashville..me and my dad." He said as he stood up.

She gasped.

"Madison..Im sorry. But I leave next week. So thats the other reason why I cant. My uncle and cousins are taking over the shop." He said

She looked down he looked at her. He knelt back down in front of her.

"Madison darlin. You are going to find someone that accept the babies and the relationship you have with Barnes. Its not me cause everytime I would see the twins I would be reminded of the cheating." He said as he held her face.

She looked down and slid her promise ring off. He saw her pulling it off.

"You can have this back. And leave." She said as she laid it in his hand.

"Madison I.." he said when he realized she never took it off.

"Just go please.." she said as she got up and opened her door.

"Madison please know that I never meant to hurt you like this. I will always love you and I will never forget you Mads. But this is for the best.." he said

She swallowed hard as she closed her eyes.

"SMACK"

"Madison.." he said as he rubbed his cheek.

"Dont ever come see me again. I hate you. You promised me things and now you are just going to walk away and leave me. So fucking go!" She said in a raised tone.

He looked down then heard. "Linc go. You need to go dude.." Bucky said

Lincoln walked out Bucky made sure he was gone. He came back to Madison's room where she was crying as she sat on her bed.

"I want you..to leave me alone too." She said as she got up and shut her door.

"Mads..I." he said as she shut the door in his face.

He took a deep breathe as he went to check on the twins.
