The Midnight Serpents sat under their balcony in darkness as light flooded into the main arena, shining on the hundreds, if not thousands, of people who began to fill the seats, much to Claire's and Gabriel's shock.. did this many people always come to support the mages and teams in the Grand Magic Games.? They knew the GMG were a big deal.. but they never expected the games to be THIS big of a deal, where thousands of people just stopped their daily lives to watch eight teams compete for their guild as number one in Fiore.. did that many people actually care about who would be number one out of these eight teams.?
Speaking of the eight teams, Midnight Serpents still had no idea who the other seven teams were. The group had decided to wake up extra early just to make sure they were here on time, which also meant waking up way earlier then their guild mates, so they didn't have time to ask them if they had made it through the preliminary.. they would just have to wait and see at this point.
Gabriel looked out towards the crowds of people, "are they all here to see us?" He asked, turning slightly to see his teammates laugh at his question, of course they weren't all here to see them.. they were here to see the other teams as well of course, but Midnight Serpents participating was just an added bonus.. especially since the ever famous 'Three Perceptions' were participating in the games.
Levy laughed slightly as she shook her head, "they're all here to see if their favorite guilds are competing." She explained with a little laugh, "there's Mermaid Heel fans, Lamia Scale fans, not to mention all the Blue Pegasus fans." She pointed out in the stands, once again causing Claire and Gabriel to wonder how she could do that without her eyesight.. but it was probably better not to ask questions about that.. they knew it was a touchy subject, just like Juvia's hearing and Lucy's voice..
Juvia cleared her throat, "There is also Mato about to announce the teams." She said quickly, her teammates laughed before it registered in their minds what she had said. Their heads all turned to the middle of the arena where Mato stood happily, bouncing from foot to foot as he waited for the crowds to settle more so he could have the full attention as he announced all of the GMG teams.
After a few seconds of being ignored, Mato clapped his hands, which seemed to get the crowds attention as their talking died down and the shuffling of people fully stopped. It would've been impressive if the person who had done it wasn't a giant pumpkin with a forever smiley face.
"Hello ladies and gents!" Mato yelled as he spun around to view the whole arena, "Welcome to this year's Grand Magic Games! Are you excited?" He asked, pausing to let the crowds cheer and holler before he put his hands up to silence them so he could speak more, it took a second, but this time the crowds were much quicker to quiet down.
"As you all know, we have eight wonderful teams who fought their way for spots on this year's roster!" Mato announced, once again pausing as the crowds cheered when he mentioned the teams, "so how about we meet them?" He asked, the cheers coming from the crowds practically knocked him off his feet as they roared with approval, as eager to know who the top eight were as Mato was eager to announce them.
Mato clapped, "alright! In eighth place.. well, isn't this some deja vu?" He giggled to himself as he gestured towards one of the dark tunnels, "in eighth place is none other then the famous guild of town-wreckers, Fairy Tail!" He announced, the crowds cheered loudly for them as they took the field, waving to their guild and fans as they acted like they owned the place.. it would've been much more fitting if the crowds had booed them instead, now the Fairies acted like they were all that just because of one positive reaction from fans, but the truth was they were nothing more then scum beneath someone's shoe.
The Serpents groaned, annoyed that the Fairies had managed to make it through the preliminary after all. They were so sure they had knocked them out good enough that they would've been asleep for hours! They should've hit them a couple more times for good measure.. and just for fun.
