"Are you sure you don't want one of us to drive? You seem a little... caffeinated."
"I was going to say unhinged. Or-you know- whatever."
Two Days Later.
Getting enough sleep isn't just to keep us physically sustainable. It's vital for our bodies emotional and physical well-being. In the first twenty-four hours without sleep out brains suffer cognitively. The mind goes into 'local sleep' where the brain will shut down a tremendous amount of neuron's in various regions of the brain to conserve energy. People who entre this state can appear fully awake although their ability to perform tasks requiring any thought or conscious concentration will significantly decline. Not only will someone become drowsy but their tolerance for anything irritable will skyrocket. They will experience memory and concentration difficulties, reduced coordination, impaired judgment, raised levels of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline, increased blood sugar levels and muscle tension. With only twenty-four hours of sleep deprivation it's comparable to a person having a blood alcohol level of 0.10 percent. For that reason I cling tightly between the back of the Impala and the front seat as Dean drives erratically through Pittsburgh in our wild search for Jeremy Frost. Whilst Sam and I took shift naps to watch Dean whose lack of sleep is growing increasingly beyond prominent with our desperate search. "I mean this Jeremy kid not a friggin ghost", Dean angrily snaps at us "Where the hell could he be!"
