"Care to help?"
"No way. This is all too much stupidity and it's causing my remarks to buffer"
Time passes on and the argument is forgotten between Sam and me. Well... not completely. Enough of the remaining tension has survived to force us into an uneasy silence. The sad thing about it is I can't figure out if it was me stabbing Ruby or my deceit with Dean that's made this mess the way it is. Either of my suspicions is a slam sunk in the 'Eleanor it was a dick move' basket and all I'm hit is net. So here I sit, fingerpicking at the page of the Morton House textbook whilst my attention is stuck on Sam. I know he's tried to make it subtle but I know Sam's putting distance between us- physically. He doesn't turn around to chat with me in the car and he goes with Dean to order food. Small changes which he's tried to not make obvious but I'm still picking them up all the same. Yet here I sit too stubborn to apologise. I'm not apologizing for Ruby. Sam still views her as the misunderstood Demon but I stand by what I did. Ruby has had it coming from a mile away. The mess with Dean... I'm not even sure where to apologise for that. How do you explain to your best friend that you've caught feelings for his brother you've known your entire life?
Feeling a tap on my shin I avert my gaze from Sam to Dean who's sat on the other end of the sofa. From the way his eye looks between me and his brother I know my longing staring has been caught. And judging from the circle's Dean's drawing on my ankle the distress over Sam's unease must be plastered over my face. Waving it off with a small shake of my head I toss the textbook back onto the coffee table with a clap and rise to my feet, telling Dean "I can't believe you're this desperate to hunt a ghost on a leap year. That's just asking for trouble."
"I agree with El", Sam brings up from the table. Leaning back in his seat, Sam points his pen towards me "Nobody's died from that house in years. Generations have probably forgotten it's even there."
"It's the Grand Canyon of haunted houses!" Dean defends the idea which originated with him, enthusing way to excitably "It's an easy hit! We get in, gank the spirit for good, we get out before the leap year."
