Vanessa

It had been a week since my "followers" came to me. They seemed to have settled in quite nicely. I still wasn't sure as to what they wanted from me. Was I fit to be a Queen? I didn't even know what a Queen did or said. I don't think I could handle being responsible for so many lives. I was only in high school! How could they entrust their lives to me?! I snapped out of my thoughts when the doorbell rang. I opened the door and was shocked to find Caelin greeting me. He bowed his head in respect before flashing me a charming smile. I smiled back and let him in.

"Was there something that you needed?"

Caelin shook his head. "I just wanted to accompany you to school."

I raised an eyebrow. "Aren't you a little old for high school?"

Caelin gasped and feigned an offended look.

"How old do you think I am?"

I giggled and shrugged. In truth, he looked very young. Caelin huffed.

"I"ll have you know I'm only twenty-two."

I chuckled. "I was only joking! You could definitely pass as a teenager with that baby face of yours."

Caelin narrowed his eyes at me. "You are truly cruel, my Queen."

"I'm assuming that you took care of the paperwork?"

Caelin nodded, grabbing my backpack and escorting me to his car. As we entered the school, I glanced at Caelin.

"I hope you don't mind being the center of attention."

Caelin chuckled. "It wouldn't be the first time."

"Oooh, a ladies man, are we?"

Caelin shrugged. "I've had my fair share."

I snorted out a laugh and led him to the office. I leaned against a wall as the secretary went over his paperwork and gave him his schedule. Once he was done, he came to my side.

"Will any of the others be joining us as well?"

"Yes, they'll most likely join us later in the week. A few of them wanted to take some more time to settle in."

I nodded my head in understanding and took a look at his schedule. I smiled. The majority of his classes were with me.

"Was this on purpose?" I asked waving the schedule around.

"Yeah, I figured it would be best."

"Are you like, my royal guard or something?"

Caelin chuckled and shook his head. "No, I'm just a bit protective of you, but you could assign a royal guard if you truly wanted to."

"I'm not even sure if I want to be Queen."

Caelin flinched. I cast my gaze down.

"I'm sorry."

Caelin drew in a deep breath.

"No need to be sorry. It's a lot of responsibility. I guess none of us thought of the possibility of our Queen rejecting us."

I grimaced. "When you say it like that, it makes me feel horrible."

"It was never my intention to make you feel bad. I'm sorry if I did so."

I sighed. "I know."
