A feral scream pierced the air. Vanessa! Kayden and I raced downstairs. Vanessa was thrashing wildly against Aiden. Her groans and moans of pain echoed throughout the house. Aiden suddenly drew out a ragged breath and let go of Vanessa. She let out another roar of pain and Kayden and I rushed to her, or at least we tried to before Aiden stepped in front of us.
"Touching her, trying to contain her, it only makes it worse."
"So, we're just supposed to watch her like this!" Kayden yelled
Aiden shook his head "No, I wouldn't recommend that either. I suggest you go upstairs and blast the tv, blast some music, or whatever you can find."
"And that'll make everything better," I replied sarcastically
"No, but it's better than watching and hearing her in pain."
I realized that this was probably a thousand times harder for him and Vanessa's mother. Aiden had always looked young. If you saw him, you would think that he was in his mid-twenties, but now it seemed as if his face had aged a couple of years. Of course, this was more than understandable. This was his daughter, and even with the significant power he had, he still couldn't do much in a situation like this. Kayden and I both trudged upstairs and disappeared into separate rooms. This was going to a long and shitty night.
Just as I plopped onto the bed the doorbell rang. Kayden leaned against the top of the staircase while I went to answer the door. I opened the door and was met with a smack. Fuck. I looked down and saw Leila.
"I trusted you guys to protect my best friend!"
Aiden walked into the room and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"While this probably could have been prevented, there's no telling that there wouldn't have been another incident, just like this. I have a bit of explaining to do."
About an hour later everyone was filled in and we all dispersed to our rooms. Leila tried to refuse, she wanted to stay with Vanessa, or at least until she heard her screaming. She held her tears in as she ran to Vanessa's room. I sighed and walked back to my room. We all had to be strong or at least pretend to be.
