Chapter 8

I woke up to a frantic knocking on the door. I got up out of bed bleary eyed and walked down the stairs. I opened the door and saw the spaz known as Stiles at my door step. “What the hell are you doing here?” I ask my voice catching from my body not being fully awake. “Where's Derek?” “He should be upstairs. Do you want me to go get him?” “Why the hell would he be upstairs?” His eyes get wide. “Did you two-” I cut him off. “If you want to stay alive, don't finish that statement.” I snap. I cross my arms over my chest. He takes a step away from me. “Look, he came here last night and crashed on my chair. Nothing happened.” He nods.

“So can you go get him?” Stiles asks. I nod. I walk up the stairs and open my door. I look in my chair and he's gone. How did I not notice he was gone?

I notice my sketch book open. I pick it up and a note is written in it the page with the tree drawn. I read the note.

I had to leave for a couple of days, sorry I didn't wake you up, didn't want to bother you. Talk to you soon. Please be safe.

-Derek

I sat down in my chair with a heavy sigh and I ran a hand through my hair. I hope he's okay.

I walked downstairs. “He's gone.” “What do you mean he's gone?” “I mean, he stayed until I was asleep and took off.” “Maybe he's home.” I nod. “Go get dressed and come with me.” I raise a eyebrow at him. “Why?” “The Hales scare me.” I roll my eyes. “Way to go Batman.”

I run upstairs and get dressed. I throw on a gray sweater, blue jeans and black boots. I run downstairs and I see Stiles talking to Marcus.

I walk over to them, Marcus is completely sober. He has a ice pack on his jaw where Derek cold cocked him. I bit my lip to hide the smile on my face. “Hey guys.” I say chipper. “Hey, sweetheart how you doing?” Marcus asks. He probably doesn't remember Derek was the one who did that to his jaw. “I'm great, I'm gonna go over to my friends house. I'll be back for dinner.” I say with a large fake smile. He nods. “Sir how did you get that bruise?” Stiles asks. My eyes get wide. I shoot him a glare. “Oh, I think we have to get going, we don't want to be late Peter gets impatient, Stiles.” I give him a look to go along with it. But he doesn't. “Peter?” “Stiles let's go.” I grab his arm and pull him out the door.

“What was that?” Stiles asks. I roll my eyes and march toward the door of the jeep. “Macy, what was that?” He puts a hand on my shoulder to stop me. “Why did he have a bruise on his jaw?” “I can't tell you. You, Lydia and Derek already know way to much.” “What does Derek know?” I keep walking and I get in the jeep. He let's out a frustrated sigh and gets in the jeep.

We up to the loft and I pull the door open and I see Cora sitting at the table she looks up when she sees us. “What are you doing here?” She asks. “Looking for Derek, do you have any idea where he would be?” Stiles asks.

She didn't know but she decided to give us more background information on Derek and when something bad happened.

“They were there for two days. Waiting, hiding. That's what we're taught to do when the hunters find us. Hide and heal.” She says her back to us looking out the window, watching the rain pour adding to our already somber moods.

“Okay so it two days standard then? Or are we thinking Derek's on like, some, extended get away?” Stiles asks, I give him a look. He needs to learn to shut his pie-hole. Cora turned to face us. “Why do you care?” She snaps while giving Stiles a pointed look.
