'Why are you lying to me?'
Richie stood there dumbfounded, "Euh..What- What do you mean?"
Eddie rolled his eyes at that, "You say you're all alone but there's an unfamiliar jacket and shoes here and there are two bowls of unfinished ramen standing on the coffee table."
Okay, maybe Richie should have thought this through better.
"Eddie I-"
"It's that soulmate of yours, isn't it?"
Richie's eyes grew the size of petri dishes, "Eddie-"
"Save it, Rich. See, this is exactly why we needed to break up." Eddie said, voice breaking and eyes getting teary again. Before Richie could say anything more Eddie had turned back around, opened the door and slammed it behind his back.
Richie slowly leaned his forearms and his head against the door and suddenly let out a scream while banging his fist on the door. He started crying again, he had been crying a lot. He wanted to slid down against the door until he felt two hands on his waist. He turned around and let himself fall in Connor's arms.
It wasn't like Richie really wanted to be close to Connor. His heart pulled after Eddie and screamed at him to run after the brunette, but his mind was stronger then his heart and it told him to stay with Connor.
~
Almost two weeks had gone by and The Losers had planned so many things to do in the summer but they all just kind of waved it off, probably because of what happened between Eddie and Richie. So instead of spending his time with them, Richie was spending a big chunk of his summer with Connor.
Today they were going to get ice cream together so Richie took a shower and got dressed. He pulled his hair in a messy bun again because it was too hot to just let it down. After he had eaten he brushed his teeth, grabbed his wallet and keys, slipped on his shoes and waited for Connor. After a few moments his phone pinged. He checked it and saw a text from Connor:
Connor🍑📞🥰: I'm here xx
He stood up from the sofa and made his way out of the appartment, locking the door on the way out. He walked down the spiralling stairs and when he walked outside he was met with the sight of his beautiful soulmate.
"Hey." he said with a smile and pecked the boy's lips.
"Heyy." the blonde one answered back and they started making their way to the ice cream parlor, Connor interlacing their fingers with eachother.
On the way there they were talking about what flavor to get and Connor challenged Richie to get something that doesn't work together, "Like, lemon and cookiedough or something." Connor said while laughing. "Well, then you have to get...strawberry and euh...salted caramel."
A thought flashed through his head about that strawberry was Eddie's favorite flavor and his heart stung at that thought but it was quickly shaken off as Connor pulled him inside of the parlor and they both ordered their weird combinations.
When they walked outside Richie stuck a spoon with lemon and cookie dough ice cream on it in his mouth and grimaced a bit, cookie dough was his favorite flavor but now it was mixed with the tang from the lemon and Richie didn't know how to feel about it. Connor started laughing at the face Richie pulled. Then he tasted his own ice cream and informed Richie that it actually wasn't that bad.
They were walking through the park and Connor went to sit down on a bench, patting the spot next to him and Richie hesitated for a moment. He recognized the bench, it was where Eddie and Richie had shared so many ice creams and his heart stung a little again but he went to sit down either way.
They started feeding their cooling dessert to eachother and shared a few kisses in between. After finishing both of their ice creams, Richie went to throw the two cups away in the trash. When he was walking over to the trashcan he heard a loud, familiar scream and laughter bubbling up. He looked over to were the sound was coming from and saw all of his friends together in the park.
Beverly was chasing Stan with a water bottle, laughing her ass off while Stan kept screaming. Mike and Ben were laying out a picknick blanket and Eddie and Bill were sat in the grass, a picknick basket between the two of them.
His friends were holding a picnic...without him. He always had known he fitted in less than the others because he knew them for barely a year, while all of them had known eachother for multiple years, still it stung like a bitch to see them having fun without him...like Richie had never existed.
Connor was confused as to why Richie was just standing at the trashcan until he saw what the boy was looking at. Pushing himself off the bench, he quietly started walking over to Richie and layed a careful hand on his shoulder. Richie turned around abbruptly but his facial features softened when he saw that it was just Connor.
"Baby, it's okay. You don't need them." Connor tried to console Richie, but the ravenette shook the blonde's hand off of his shoulder, "No... I definitely do need them...They're my friends Connor. The only people I have in this shitty town." Connor grabbed Richie's face in between his hands and caressed the boy's cheeks with his thumbs, "You have me."
Richie smiled down at him and leaned in to kiss him, the soft press of their lips together making Richie for a moment forget about what was happening behind him until he heard a scream from Eddie now. Richie pulled away and turned back around to see Eddie with water dripping down his face and Beverly frantically trying to apologise.
He started staring at the group again and suddenly made eye contact with Stanley. The honeyblonde one froze up for a second and Richie saw the light panic in his eyes until Stan lifted one of his hands and gave a quick little wave in Richie's direction. This drew Ben's attention to the ravenette and he waved too, but his movement started changing from waving to motioning for Richie to come closer.
He hesitated for a moment but after a few seconds he grabbed Connor's hand and started making his way over to his friends. Stan quickly stood up and ran towards Richie, engulfing the boy in a hug, and started whispering in his ear while holding him in a tight grip, "I'm so sorry for not inviting you but it was Eddie's idea to have a picnic and he insisted on not inviting you. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry Rich."
The ravenette had let go of Connor's hand and was caressing Stan's back with both his hands, "It's fine, Staniel...I'll leave if Eddie asks." Stan loosened his grip a little, arms still around Richie's neck but he was now looking Richie in his eyes, "Just know that we really didn't want to count you out." The ravenette smiled down at his best friend and nodded. Stan let go of him and he swung an arm around the bird lover's shoulders,
"So, what'r we havin'?"
