EIGHT

Winter couldn't believe it was Saturday already. As she dragged her box into the airport to her boarding gate, she felt exhausted for a weekend that hadn't even begun.
She arrived home around 2pm and met Autumn in the living room watching a series-The Blacklist,
Of course she wasn't surprised it just proved Autumn was bored. The Autumn she knew usually watched series whenever she was bored. She remembered when they were much younger, just finished high school and they travelled to New Zealand to spend the Summer: dad had told them how fun it was going to be, because he had made plans but the night they got to New Zealand, it snowed so hard. Everything was closed up and they had to stay indoors till further notice. While they all were complaining, Autumn went to Netflix and checked for series and she found one she liked Designated Survivor, so she began watching the series and in two days she was done with the it and flicked through for more.
"You should stop ignoring people, it never ends well"Winter said
"Oh, you're back? I didn't see you there. Probably because you reduced in height and became fatter" Autumn teased
"Looking for trouble already? Not a single moment of rest in my father's house goddammit!"Winter had misinterpreted
"Nah,I'd rather not waste my strength on you. thanks for ruining my good afternoon"Autumn answered and she left to her room.
"He could have just let us stay in our different homes and we would just arrive at the church for the burial and after that everyone returns back home. I honestly don't get his issue"Autumn complained as she entered Summer's room.
"Hey Jay, I would call you back okay" Summer hurriedly said to her son on the phone and then turned to face her sister, looking like a child caught in mischief.
"You should learn how to knock, Autumn"
"Well I did knock...several times but you were too busy talking to Jay. By the way, who is Jay?"Autumn asked
"Nobody you need to concern yourself with Autumn. Why are you here?"Summer asked
"I don't understand, can't I come see my favourite sister that I missed"Autumn said
" Like you could miss me. I've been with you for 2 days, you don't miss me. What have you done or what do you want?"
"Fine, always acting like you know everything, Winter is back and she already managed to piss me off"Autumn complained
"Finally, The WHILTEMORE SISTERS are complete, let the drama begin"Summer said, clapping her hands.
"Are you serious? It's you I feel bad for though because you are the one who has to settle fights so just get ready. I love you but there is no way I'm going to stand and watch them insult you."Autumn replied
"No one is going to insult me, Autumn, stop being extra" Summer said.
"Fine, whatever you say. Can we go on a walk this evening, please? just you and I?"Autumn asked
"Okay, in like an hour's time, there is something I need to do first."Summer said
"Oh,you want to call Jay again, okay I can't wait to meet him,he is probably cute yeah?"Autumn was goading her.
"Shushh Autumn and get out" Summer replied..
"I'm going," and Autumn left.
Summer picked her phone to call her son
"Mama I've been waiting for your call"Jayson said
"I know baby, I'm sorry something came up but I'm here now."Summer apologized.
"Yes,mommy we have this thing at school where children bring their fathers to school and tell us about their jobs. Will you come for me instead?"Jayson asked
"Of course baby. Anything for you, I'll come "Summer replied with tears welling in her eyes.
She didn't know if she wanted to find his father again but she had to for Jayson. He deserved to know and meet his father but she wasn't ready just yet, maybe after this whole burial stuff she would try looking for him again.
"Okay Jayson, I've got to go. I would call you later okay and I would be back soon. I love you baby"Summer said
"I love you too mammina. Muahh."Jayson cooed.
Summer dressed up and went to Autumn's room to call her.
"Madam, you aren't even dressed yet?"Summer shouted
" You said an hour Summer, it's not even 45 minutes yet."Autumn said with a shrug.
"Stop complaining and go dress up, I would wait in the parlor"summer said.
"In the parlor? Your sister's are back don't forget, I don't want y'all fighting."Autumn said
"Shut up. Not everyone is you okay, hurry up will you?"Summer replied and left the room.
She sat on the dining waiting for Autumn, her eyes fell on their family picture, she was smiling at the camera and she noticed Autumn was smiling at her and Winter as always was glaring at her while Spring was focused on their father and holding hands with Winter. She wondered how she never noticed all those details. she just sighed and kept staring glassy eyed at the TV, evidently lost in thought.
"Let's go Summer I'm ready"Autumn said
"Finally"Summer replied with relief.
"Off to somewhere? Couldn't even welcome your sister"Winter said
"Welcome Winter, Autumn let's go"Summer said. She led the way and Autumn followed.
They strolled down and stopped at their high school.
"Do you want to enter inside?"Summer asked
"I don't know Summer"Autumn said.
"I understand and I'm not going to push you okay"Summer said.
"On second thoughts, let's go in. I'm fine"Autumn replied
"Are you sure?"Summer asked
"Yes Summer. I'm sure, I'm fine."Autumn assured her sister.
"Okay then let's go, take my hand"
Autumn took it and they went inside.
They entered their classroom, the gym, the library and slowly walked to the cafeteria, she could feel Autumn hand trembling in hers.
"We don't have to, if you don't want to Autumn really, it's not worth it."Summer said
"I have to get over it, it's either now or later. Let's do it already"Autumn replied, hoping she sounded confident. She was terrified.
"Okay, let's go"Summer said and they both entered the cafeteria.
The memories came flooding back, like a dam had broken. Autumn was replaying all the scenes: all the times she was bullied and all her sisters pretended not to see, she remembered always seeing Winter and Spring but never Summer, Summer was never there when she was bullied.
She remembered the day she finally saw Summer and thought maybe today she'd see Summer's real nature, how she doesn't care like the rest. Turns out fate had a different thing in mind.
That day, she was being bullied, as usual, at the cafeteria and for the first time Summer came to eat at the cafeteria instead of the library, she walked in and saw Autumn being bullied. The girl had poured her cramberry juice on her hair and now it just dripped down. Autumn sat down in tears begging . Summer searched around for Spring and Winter, she saw them both sitting at the far corner of the cafeteria and just watching. Summer didn't know when her elder sister mode kicked in and she went straight to the middle of the cafeteria and slapped the girl
Autumn still remembers Summer's words to her bully Savina.
"This slap is a warning , the next time I see you anywhere near my sister, anywhere at all, I would beat you and RUIN YOU. It's not a threat, it's a promise". She took Autumn's hand in hers and walked over to where Spring and Winter sat and said to them "I have never been more ashamed to call you both my sisters until today". Then she led Autumn out of the cafeteria.
At that point, Autumn knew who her favourite sister was going to be, She knew who she was going to love and support forever, that person was SUMMER WHILTEMORE.
They left the cafeteria and this time Autumn hugged her sister and told her thank you for coming to my rescue and being there. "I can never get tired of saying it: I love you Summer."
From that day till they graduated, Summer always ate with Autumn.
