I froze. Something told me to run away, put I kept my feet planted firmly on the ground. "Hi", I said brightly. "I have to say, I haven't seen this shop here before." "Oh, we haven't been open long, we're.....renovating!" he says. "We?", I say. I look around, but I don't see anyone else. "Is there anyone else here?", I say. "Yes", he replies. "Where are they?", I asked. "Where are who?", he asked, feigning a look of confusion. "Your-", I began, but stopped myself. "Never mind." I looked around. I casually walked around looking at weird creepy things this man sells. "Let me know when you see something you like", he calls out to me. I stare at him. "Sure", I say, going back to looking. Then I come across a mirror, a beautiful mirror. Like really beautiful. It was shiny and I could see myself perfectly in it, and I could've sworn I saw it shimmer when I touched it. "Ah", Mr. Bannerman said behind me, and I jumped. I didn't even hear him or see him get up. "That's a very special mirror", he says. "Really?", I ask. "What's so special about it?" He walks directly in front of the mirror and turns to me. "It's a magic mirror", he replies. "A magic mirror", I repeat, knowing this man needed an asylum, and fast. He nods. "This mirror can make all of your dreams come true." I look at him doubtfully, and then I look at the mirror. I highly doubted it was magic, but it was a really nice mirror. "How much is it?", I ask. He sighs. "Well, I've tried to sell it for a very long time", he says. "But since it's been around for so long, I've lowered the price to ten dollars." My mouth fell open. "Ten bucks? For this?" He nods slowly. "Interested?" I nod quickly. Ten dollars for a pretty mirror was the biggest bargain I had ever come across.

He wrapped it up for me and I carried it to my car. "Be sure to enjoy it. Like I said, it's a very special mirror", he calls out. "Thank you!", I said, turning my head to him, but he was gone. Huh. He must have gone back inside his shop. He's pretty fast for a man his age.

When I arrived home, the first thing I saw was my mom at the table with my sister, helping with her with her homework. She looks up and sees me. "Hey Arielle! How was school?", she asked. "It was great, Ma", I said, trying to cover the abrasion on my face. "What's that you got there?", she asked, craning her neck at the mirror. "It's a mirror. I got it at an antique store for ten bucks.", I reply, taking a bite out of an apple. "Let me see it", she said and unwraps it. "Wow, it's gorgeous." I nod in agreement. "I know. But the guy who sold it to me was kind of weird. He said this mirror was a magic mirror. And that it can make all my dreams come true." Judy pops her little head up. "Can it make me a princess?", she asks. I roll my eyes at her. "Don't be dumb Judy. The guy's obviously a loon, he probably only said it to make me more interested in it. There's no such thing as magic." Judy looked at the mirror, disappointed. My mother places it in front of me. "Either way, it's a lovely mirror Arielle, I think it would look nice in your room." I pick it up. "I know right? I'm going to go put it up now." I race up the stairs. "Be back down in time for dinner!", my mom calls after me. "Okay!", I call back. "Wait. Who's making it?", I said, eyeing her suspiciously. She rolls her eyes and laughs. "Don't worry, Svetlana's making it." I grin and go up to my room.

I put my bag down and search for a place to put up the mirror. I had space to put it, I just had to find a good spot. I decided to put it next to my bed, to the right of my closet. I hung it up and smiled. I peered at my reflection and my heart stopped. I was seeing me, but not really me. I mean it was me in the mirror but, my hair was down and curled. I wasn't wearing glasses, but I was wearing fancy jewelry and a cute pink dress. I looked down. My T-shirt and jeans was still there, and I reached up to touch my hair. It was still in a ponytail and I still had my glasses. What kind of a mirror is this?! Then my reflection smiled at me. And I don't know what it was, but a word formed in my mind and I said it aloud.

"Arista."

The mirror morphed and my reflection was gone. It then turned into this girl I had never seen before. I backed away from the mirror and the girl in the mirror slowly floated out and she hovered in the air and smiled at me.

"Hi", she said. "My name is Arista."

And then everything went black.....
