I stood in front of my full-length mirror, wearing a silk pink dress. "You look beautiful dear", my mother said, smiling and taking pictures of me. "Angel won't be able to resist you!" "Slow down", my father says. "I have yet to meet the young man. I will decide whether or not he gets to resist our daughter." "Oh Robert, stop it", my mom says. "Our daughter is seventeen. She can take care of herself." I laugh and look in my mirror again. A tiny part of me still wished that I had that magic mirror with me so I could admire what I see. But I shook that feeling away. I realize now I don't need magic to like what I see, I was beautiful, no matter what mirror I looked into.
Then the doorbell rang. "It's Angel!", I say excitedly and race down the stairs. "Wait!", I say, screeching to a stop. "Mom, you answer the door. I want to make a big entrance. I want to surprise him." Mom nods, and she rushes to the door. I wait at the top of the stairs and my dad sneaks behind my mom.
Oh god Dad, please don't slaughter my boyfriend.....
"Hello, Angel!", I hear my mother say. "Goodness, you look so handsome!" "Thank you, Mrs. Cormick, and it's nice to see you again", I hear Angel say. "Hello.....Angel", I hear my father say. "Good evening Mr. Cormick, it's very nice to meet you sir", Angel says.
"Nice to meet you too son. Now, tell me, do you plan to have fun tonight?"
"Um, I guess so sir."
"Exactly what I was afraid of. Have her home by eleven-thirty."
"Yes sir."
"Good man."
"Robert, you leave the boy alone!", my mother scolds. "I like him, he's a perfect gentleman, and he treats Arielle very well. So you be nice to him." "I am being nice to him", my father says. "If I wasn't being nice to him, he wouldn't be dating my daughter in the first place."
"Robert, you hush your mouth this minute!"
"Yes, Dani."
"Speaking of Arielle, is she ready?", Angel asks. "Oh! Yes!", Mom says. "Arielle! Your boyfriend is here!" I take a deep breath. Here goes.....
I walk down the stairs and turn towards my family. "Whoa, babe", Angel says. "You look so beautiful." I blush and smoothen my dress. "Thanks, Angel", I say. "I brought you this", he says, taking out a corsage. "Let me pin it for you." He moves forward to pin it to the shoulder of my dress. "Oh, I've got to take pictures of this", my mom says, getting her phone ready.
"Just watch those hands", my dad says. "No wandering fingers." My mom swats my dad's arm and starts snapping pictures. Angel gently pins the corsage to my dress and takes both my hands. "Are you ready to go?", he asks. I nod, and he leads me to the door. "Have fun, you two!" "Not too much fun!", my dad yells after us. "Robert!", my mom yells and slams the door. Angel and I get in his car and we drive to school. There are people from the student council and the photography club taking pictures of the couples.
Angel and I step out of the car and I link my arm through his. We both walk to the open doors. This was always how I pictured this moment, blissfully walking to the spring dance with the man I love. Guilt came crawling back to me when I knew that Angel was still under some sort of influence under Arista's magic. I would have to tell him.....one day *wink*
I couldn't worry about that now. Right now, I had a fabulous date with my guy, and I was going to enjoy it to the fullest. Everyone with cameras immediately started snapping pictures of us and shouting compliments over the noise of the cameras. Angel and I smiled and walked into the cafeteria, where it was beautifully decorated to match the spring theme. The DJ had already started playing wild dance music and many students were dancing. But they stopped when Angel and I walked through the door. They started whispering and pointing. It was a little uncomfortable, but since I knew it meant that Angel and I were the "it" couple, it didn't bother me as much.
