PLEASE READ THE A/N:
Hello guys! I have a lot of stories to catch up on. But 2 of my stories are almost done. So I decided to put this up! Please do tell what you think. Enjoy!
Marriage is a piece of paper stating that two people want proof of commitment to one another. I on the other hand, am happily married to my job. They say if you can't teach, you can't wed then plan. I plan at least two weddings per month and believe me that is still a lot of work. I make sure the bridesmaid's gowns fit, the cake is made to perfection, the bride doesn't runaway or the groom doesn't get drunk on the bachelor's party. These things are more important than finding my own Prince Charming, that poor idiot must be stuck in some tree or something. He can hang on a little longer.
What I hate about being single is buying groceries.
I stood on my tippy toes already feeling the cramps shooting up my legs, my arms stretched as high as they could go. I tried reaching the pasta on the top shelf but no matter how high I jump or how much I stretch, reaching the pasta was mission impossible because of my height. Sometimes I curse the family genes, my younger sister was blessed with the height of 5'8 while I stood a lame 5'2. Sometimes I was mistaken for the youngest, but personality I am the oldest. It's just me and my sister, Celine, along with my parents who looked at us like we were the most perfect children ever.
"Stupid," I huffed out as I tried jumping once more, "Height." I groaned as I stared at the pasta, I swear it was taunting me from up there. That's until a hand grabbed the pasta and held it in front of me. I looked at the person and saw an extremely handsome tall man, once I realized that I had to crane my head to look at the man beside me I burned up like a cherry. I grabbed the pasta from his hands and softly said "Thank you." he smiled, and to say his smile was attractive was a huge understatement. "No problem, I was gonna grab one myself when I notice your..." he trailed off trying to find a word that's less offensive than saying You're too short to reach it yet his voice sent shivers down my spine. "Until I saw you are vertically challenged." he said which made me giggle a bit too much. "Yeah... I can see you have no problem. I think you can be mistaken for a tree." I mentally slapped myself for acting like a little girl excited to go on a camping trip.
He chuckled, let me say it sounded like a volcanic sand slaked in honey type of voice, "At least I'm not compared to a pole, the tree is new." he said, I smiled like an over-dosed Hyena as I stood there awkwardly. "Well... Enjoy your pasta! Have to go." he said slowly as he started pushing his grocery cart away. "Bye! Don't let the squirrels bite!" I should have not said that, but before he was completely out of my sight I heard him chuckle.
Continuing my grocery, I couldn't get Mr. Tall and Handsome out of my mind. I quickly pushed that thought away as I also had a conclusion that he could be a perv or even worse, a married man. I decided not to go with my 27 year old single woman dinner/lunch list. I rolled my eyes and went straight to the Ice cream section but as I arrived at the fridge where they held the cookie dough flavored ice cream-- I totally wanted to pull my hair out. "What the f--" the last cookie dough tub was on the top shelf located way at the back. I tried once more, tippy toes and stretched arms, but then I knew it was no use. "Seriously!?!? Out of all the places, it had to be at the top especially in the back!! What does a short person have to do to reach really tall places!!" I yelled out of frustration making everybody in the store turn their attention to me.
"By asking someone taller for help." a voice said, but I could never forget that voice. Over the last few minutes-- not more than five-- I played his voice in repeat in my head. I craned my head once more and saw him holding the tub of ice cream. I snatched it from his hands and asked "Are you following me?" with a fake scowl on my face. He chuckled once more which made me melt into a puddle beneath my feet. "I was just around and I saw you once more challenged, and not to mention your outburst. Let me guess you're one of those girls who rant on Facebook?" he asked but I could tell he was teasing me.
His blue eyes stared at me as if they could see right through my clothes. "Ha. ha. You're funny!" I said as I put the tub of ice cream in my cart. "I think you need me when you go grocery." he said, I rolled my eyes and said "You are so full of yourself." all of sudden three girls squealed as they approached Mr. Tall and Handsome. "omg! Lee please sign my book." one said "Lee, can I take a picture?" another asked, and once the three girls were done I raised an eyebrow and asked "What are you a celebrity or something?" his eyes widen and he asked "You seriously don't know?" So he was a celebrity?
"You see, my job is my life unless you are in the music business I might recognize you but I have no interest in actors." I said, it was true. If I had no time to find my Prince charming then I certainly don't have time to watch TV or keep up with who dates who, or why Miley Cyrus sticks her tongue out now. "So you haven't seen The Hobbit or Guardians of the galaxy?" he asked, but I shook my head and his face broke out into a smile that I have never seen since I met him which was only a few minutes ago. "Hi, my name is Lee Pace." he said as he stuck out his hand for me to shake. As a woman married to her job, I could not deny a handshake. "I'm Charlotte but you can call me Charlie." I said as I shook his hand. "Have you had lunch yet?" he asked as his hand retreated and he put them in his pocket.
"No, I haven't." I said with a smile knowing where this was going. I remember what my father said to me when I was at my parent's house for the holidays. 'You can't keep avoiding love. Just promise me when it comes knocking you'll answer.' Cheesy, but I think this is his point. A man who I find very attractive asking me if I had lunch or not. "Wanna grab a bite?" he asked, I smirked as I pushed my blonde hair behind my shoulders and said "As long as I get to pay for my own meal." "Ooh! An independent woman I see. You have yourself a lunch mate." he said
Me and Lee paid for our groceries, then he asked me to choose a place to eat but I just chose Dominoes pizza place. We both ordered large pepperoni pizza and large cokes which we both split the bill. As we both munched on our pizza he started talking with his mouth full, "I thought you were one of those girls who loves to eat at fancy restaurants." he said, "What makes you say that?" I asked with my mouth full as well. "You don't really know much when it comes to movies and actors, and you offer to pay for your own bill." he said. I shrugged my shoulders and said "I usually eat in places like this when I'm alone but when I'm at work I eat at fancy places."
Me and Lee talked almost the whole day, until he said that he had to go. Not before dancing in the parking lot like idiots, I had fun with Lee so much that I didn't want him to leave but as we both waved good-bye I quickly floor-faced myself for I, Short Charlie as what my sister calls me have made the biggest mistake of my entire life.
I forgot to ask his number.
