"Okay sweet girl. I love you. Have a good day." She hung up the phone and sighed heavily. By the tan, bags under her eyes and appearance, she wasn't from here. She was gorgeous however, her left hand twitches when someone walks in, she was married, waiting on her husband to come back to her, her and his kid. I stood up and slowly made my way to her table, "Hi, my names y/n, I couldn't notice how anxious you look and wanted to check on you." I sat in front of here setting my book and coffee down. "Oh! I'm fine. I guess. I just have a lot going on right now. One of those being that I am far from home and have no idea where my wallet went." My heart sank at the thought that she was stranded with no place to stay. "Can you call someone?" She shook her head, "All my friends and family at mad at me right now because of a stupid thing my hus- ex husband did." She took a deep, calming breath. "Well seeing as how I don't know you and I'm not biased, hit me. It might feel good to get an actually honest opinion." She looked at me with a glimmer of hope but mostly pain in her eyes, "He was staying out awkwardly late, coming home at random times in the night, and he would slip his ring back on in the entrance way, thinking I didn't notice. He would smell like perfume and makeup. I haven't worn makeup in months. I don't wear perfume that smells like peppermint. I waited for him to say something but he never did so I asked him what was going on. With his job, he was usually home by 2 pm. At the latest. So when he started coming home at 10, 12, pm." I stopped her, "Obviously having an affair of some sorts. No one I know would ever take off their wedding band. My mom didn't take it off until like 7 months after my parents split." She laughed and threw her hands up, "Obviously! So when I sat down to talk to him about it, he got defensive and blamed the perfume on our daughter. She doesn't like the smell of peppermint. He made up bullshit excuses and wouldn't even look at me." The stopped talking and looked out the window, "I woke up one morning and he still wasn't home. I called him, texted him, nothing for hours. Emily started asking questions, and I didn't have answers, which sucked the most. A week later I got a letter saying that he left me for another woman, that he would always love me, and that he wanted full custody of Emily. Along with his ring." She let out a long kept in sigh and I peeked at my watch. "Shit. I have a meeting with a potential publisher. I have to go." I quickly gathered my things and went to stand when a hand grabbed mine. She looked at me with the most convincing puppy dog eyes, "Don't go. I have no money and no one. I'll wait for you outside and maybe you can help me get to LA after?" I grabbed her hand back and let go almost immediately as I was in a rush, "Then let's go." She grabbed her purse, phone and coat before we left into the cold wind. "We gotta book it so keep up shortie." She let out a laugh at my acknowledgement of her height and we were off. Later that night she was able to get in touch with her agent and get a flight out. I never saw her again.
