Hey guys!!! It's Christmas Eve and I'm soo excited!! So I decided to do Christmas editions on both of my stories. (one Christmas eve, the other Christmas day). I hope you enjoy them!!
CHAPTER 13
Annabeth's POV
It was Christmas Eve on the Argo II. While everyone was rushing to and fro trying to make sure they had gotten everyone their presents and had wrapped them, I got away from the bustle and went to my room.
I opened the door quietly and slipped inside the room, trying to make as little noise as possible. I wanted to be alone and if Rachel was taking a nap or was in the shower, I didn't want to let her know I was there.
Unfortunately for me, as soon as I had gently eased the door shut I turned around and saw Rachel herself staring at me.
"What are you doing?" She asked. Obviously confused about my secretive behavior.
I pretended not to know what she was talking about. "I'm going to read."
Understanding that she wasn't going to get a good answer out of me, she shrugged and went back to her own book she was reading when I came in.
I really wasn't going to read but since I had to make that up on the spot, I went and grabbed my journal.
My journal wasn't supposed to be like a diary, but it had started to turn that way. At the beginning, it was strictly an account of what had happened during the day that applied to the quest.
Now, I put my feelings into it. Mostly it was about Percy. I didn't want people to know about this because it could show a weakness. So, I used one of Deadaluses inventions. The invisible ink.
Maybe you are saying to yourself, "I know what invisible ink is! Why is something so simple as that in the laptop?"
Well, this is not your everyday invisible ink. When you write you can see what you are writing instead of writing blindly. Also, when someone passes by, it looks like you are writing something else (in my case records for the journal). And when someone asks to see it, they only see what you want them to see.
Anyways... I started pouring my thoughts and feelings into the book.
In the background music was playing. As the previous song ended a new song started. Elvis was singing "Santa Bring My Baby Back to Me".
"It sure won't seem like Christmas,
without my baby here." Elvis sang.
I couldn't take it anymore. Getting my feelings down on paper just wasn't enough. Tears started to run down my cheeks. Why couldn't Percy be with me? It would be our first Christmas as boyfriend and girlfriend.
The music suddenly stopped.
"Don't cry Annabeth," Rachel comforted as she walked over to me. She had turned off the radio in our room.
I quickly dries my tears. I had forgotten that she was still there. I couldn't look so weak and vulnerable like that in front of anybody. I tried to stop crying but it seemed impossible.
"I understand how you're feeling Annabeth, but I don't think Percy would like to see you like this. Stay strong for him."
I just smiled. Here she was, the same girl who had had a major crush on MY boyfriend, comforting me. There was something wrong with that picture.
"I was going to give this to you tomorrow morning, but now seems like a more fitting time."
I watched as Rachel walked over to her bed, bent down, and grabbed a small package.
She handed it to me as I studied the paper. It was the color of the ocean. Patterned on top were quite a few different pictures. One was an owl and a horse playing together. Another was a series of pictures showing the scene of when the chariot and horses were made. The colors blue and grey were mixing together on another one.
"Percy gave this to me to hide in your cabin once I got the chance, before he left, because he didn't want to be caught in there by himself." Rachel explained.
I merely replied, "Thanks,"
Carefully, making sure not to rip any of the beautiful wrapping paper, (I figured he must have gotten it from Hermazon) [A/N: I made up Hermazon. It is supposed to be like Amazon but you order all kinds of items from the Greek mythology world.], I revealed the present.
Inside was a beautiful blue and grey pendant necklace with hints of sea green. The pendant was a horse.
Laying beside it in the box was a note. I unrolled it, smoothed it out, and began to read.
Annabeth-
Whenever you wear this necklace you can always find me. I have a corresponding watch. If we ever lose each other we will always be reunited. I give you this in the hope you never need to use it.
Lots of love-
Seaweed Brain
"He has always loved you Annabeth. Never doubt that." Rachel told me.
"Thank you. I needed that. Now I can enjoy my Christmas a little more than I could before." I smiled back at her.
She gently took the necklace from my hands and placed it around my neck.
In that moment, I knew I could trust Rachel. From that moment on we were the best of friends.
Happy Holidays!!!
