CAPTURE THE FLAG!!!!

CHAPTER 20

Annabeth's POV

We were ready and waiting.

Traps had been set up everywhere and the Apollo cabin had notched arrows and were ready to fire at the quickest moment.

Even the Aphrodite cabin had put on the armour and looked ready to kill with lip gloss. Piper lead the group.

Now we just let Artemis' huntresses do their own thing. They had beaten us every time so there should be no reason they should fail without our help now. As long a they knew whose side they were on...

A shallow but long moat surrounded the tree that we had chosen to put our orange Camp Half-Blood flag.

I remembered earlier how it had gotten there...

------ FLASHBACK------

"Um... Annabeth... Can you come outside?" Percy asked.

I left Rachel's bedside where she would be staying during the game.

"Yeah?" I asked, curious.

"Follow me."

We walked for a while in silence and then we reached a huge river.

"What now?" I prompted.

"Show me."

"Show what?" I asked confused.

"Your water abilities."

I bit my lip. I hadn't really thought about that much and using them again really scared me. And even more than that was using them...

"Nobody's here. Just me and you."

...in front of Percy.

"Here," he said taking me by suprise as he took my hand and led me into the cool water.

He closed his eyes and held my hands tightly. The water around us started to move.

Then I realized his motives.

I clenched his hands and thought about the water.

I opened my eyes.

Percy still had his closed.

I looked around.

We were floating about 200 feet above the ground, the water sprouing honking a geyser supporting us.

I gasped.

Percy's eyes snapped open and we fell straight down back into the lake because of the lost connection.

I, out of habit, held my breath and prepared myself for a hard landing.

Whoosh!!

I softly fell through the water. I held on to Percy oh so very confused. He took my hand away from my mouth, causing me to take a breath. Then and only then did I remember about the powers if cushion on water and breathing underwater.

Percy kissed me on the cheek and then he swam straight up to the surface taking me with him. And, of course, we clambered out on the edge dry. Yay!

"Okay so here's the plan..." he whispered to me.

After he told me, we got ready.

"One.... Two..... Three!!"

The water soared out of the lake and landed around the tall tree. It crashed against the ground and made a ring around the tree. It settled down in the trench and the moat was complete.

I collapsed into Percy's arms. Definitely not as strong as him...

------END OF FLASHBACK------

And then they came.

Far up ahead we heard swords clanging and arrows soaring. Nets flying and fart bombs exploding. A small group of purple shirts crept up to the flag. Hidden, I had my invisibility cap on and was right next to the moat.

They looked around and laughed. Obviously thinking that we had left our flag to be guarded by a simple ring of H20. They easily stepped into the shallows. I threw a small pebble into the water. Percy rose from the water and together as one we worked together.

Wave after wave crashed down upon the Romans. They were flung far far far back. By that time, they were unconscious. We smiled triumphantly but the battle wasn't over. More and more came.

I threw my hat on Percy's head and he disappeared. And, consequently, I appeared. For a moment, they were stunned with utter perplexion.

In those seconds I took out my knife and skillfully injured most of them with nonfatal stabs.

My hand was then grabbed by 'thin air' and another wave sent the demigods packing. One grabbed onto a tree and was able to come closer.

No more games. It was time to fight.

And of course I disappeared. Grrr!!! Percy this was supposed to be mine! Riptide emerged from the ball point pen Seaweed Brain was holding. Percy's opponent sneered.

Their swords clashed together. Percy made the first blow, but the Roman boy striked back and cut Percy's arm. Blood gushed out from his wound but he valiantly kept fighting. I felt like I had to intervene. Nobody. And I mean NOBODY hurts my Seaweed Brain.

The Roman demigod fell to the ground. Percy stumbled into the water.

I punched the Roman in the face. He sprang to his feet and ran for the flag.

I started to chase after him. I almost got him when...
