I hated feeling this infuriated. Who did this guy think he was?
"What do you mean proof? Why else would you be in the exact place as me and my crew were gonna be when the data was uploaded on our data base?"
"So what are you implying?" He spoke so quickly after me, as if he had his replies cued up in his mind, waiting to be said. I blankly stared at him, as if it were so obvious what had been done.
"I'm implying that your company hacked into our data base and stole the information." I mocked him. I waited so desperately to hear his response, and he raised both his eyebrows.
"Again. May I ask where your proof may be?" I could feel my blood slightly boiling, I don't know what it was about him that made me so mad.
"Stop your bickering with him Micheal." The other man sneered. "I apologize, we haven't introduced ourselves. I'm Johann Carter, head of GS 207 discoveries."
"Brooklyn Wyatt, CEO of LR 156 discoveries and this is my partner, Head of our establishment Ryan Robertson."
"Sonny...Robertson." I corrected him. I turned my head to face the dark haired man, still unaware of who he was. "And, you are?" I questioned.
"Mike Cobban, it's a pleasure your majesty." He mocked. I didn't like this guy one bit.
"I'm gonna call you Mikey." And with that, I turned back to Carter, leaving him with no time to make a prissy comment. "So, I'm willing to work together seeing as you already took my men and crew. Brook and I will collect radiation scores as our crew didn't include anyone with the ability to do that."
"Thank you Mr Robertson."
"No formalities please, it's Sonny." I smiled as a jester that there were no hard feelings.
We got to work straight away as a lot of time was already wasted and we needed to spend the least amount of time that we could under the fierce sun. To detect the right radiation I had to go down the hole they had already dug up however that Mikey guy was guarding the ladder, reading a book. I saw that he was reading 'The Taming Of The Shrew' form Shakespeare, I didn't really take him for someone who understood old English. They hacked our coordinates, did he take my data of favourite books too? I scoffed. I was trying to communicate with him the least seeing as every time I spoke to him I only got riled up but I didn't really have a choice this time.
"Permission to use the ladder?" I requested, making the sarcasm in my voice noticeable.
"Whatever, but I'm gonna have to come down there with you."
"Why? I'm not a child."
"I have your light source, it's pitch black down there."
"So? Give it to me."
"Nah." His lack of reasoning really annoyed me, but I was already tired and I wasn't bothered to argue.
"Fine, I don't care." I followed him down into the dark well-like hole and once we reached the bottom, Mikey turned on the flashlight. I turned on the radiation monitor, and it started beeping.
"This hole needs to be dug deeper. Radiation levels don't match, 10 more stories down."
"10 stories!?" I shrugged my shoulders as away of telling him it's a rough idea. "You're insane, the surface of the pyramid would only be 5 stories down."
"No it wouldn't." There goes my will to not argue.
"Yes. It. Would."
"And I'm telling you it's not." I hated that I was wasting my breath on him, all I've done with him for the past hour that I've known him is snap.
"Fine. We'll get the crew to start digging and removing sand and we'll just see who was right."
"If you insist."
"If you insist." He mocked me. Again. I gave him a toxic smile and climbed back to the surface as he followed behind me.
10 minutes later and our crew started digging out some more sand. They got to 5 stories and there was no sign of a pyramid rising. My face lit up in satisfaction and I turned to Mikey to see him avoiding all eye contact with me in spite of embarrassment. I felt justice, but then once they hit 10 stories there was still no sight of a pyramid. I then exchanged places and looked away. I was so certain it was 10 stories. 30 stories later and there was still no pyramid.
"Pack up, the crew camp out on our setup and make sure nothing gets stolen. Get some rest because tomorrow we're going to get the pyramid in sight and we're not stopping until we find it."
I conferred with Brook about getting back to the hotel and we started walking off in the direction of where the car was. Before we left I recalled that I had forgotten my phone. I went back, and when I reached for where I had left it, it wasn't there.
"Mum seems to be missing you an awful lot. A missed call from Harvey, Alex and Meredith too." I looked over to see Mikey waving my phone in the air, using it as a piece of leverage.
"Meredith called?" I asked forgetting that he had no idea who that was.
"That your girlfriend or something?"
"Um, no." I snatched the phone off of him and glared into his eyes.
"You're feisty but you don't like me very much."
"You figure?"
